The effects of an attack on SIN, a twenty-nine year old University lecturer, reach out further into his future than SIN could ever imagine.
In a story, which seems doomed to start with an end, SIN learns about the forever kind of love, and how family is not just biological.
‘Soul-Mate for SIN’ shows how twists of fate can take a loving but ordinary family, from a small market town in England, and turn them into something extraordinary.
I’m pleased to reveal the cover for my début novel…it’s so exciting to reveal it here on the site I review for, amongst all my friends!
…I’m hiding of course.’ With that, he made himself more comfortable on an overhanging limb, and showered Charlie with leaves.
‘Hey! What is it with you and dropping things on my head?’
‘Ah, must be because of my namesake.’
‘Well,’ Charlie sighed. ‘What is your name?’
‘Ooh,’ the man replied ‘you’re forward.’
Charlie huffed in exasperation and started to leave muttering, ‘I really don’t need this…’
‘Sorry, sorry, don’t go please. My name is Sin.’
‘Sin?’ Charlie snorted. ‘No it’s not! ‘That’s not a name it’s a…a…a verb or maybe a noun!’ He harrumphed, pleased with his answer.
‘Well, it’s not actually my name, but most people call me that because of my initials.’
‘S.I.N. idiot! Okay, but don’t laugh.’
‘Believe me I don’t feel like laughing after you clobbered me—twice,’ Charlie responded.
‘Didn’t hurt you,’ came the sulky sounding reply.
‘Okay, grumpy.’ The man straightened himself on the limb and in a pseudo formal voice announced, ‘Samuel, Isaac Newton at your service.’
‘I don’t believe you,’ said Charlie. ‘No one is called Isaac Newton.’
‘Well, Isaac Newton was and so am I,’ Sin assured him.
‘It should have been an apple,’ murmured Charlie.
‘What?’ Sin queried.
‘If you were channelling Sir Isaac Newton, you should have dropped an apple on my head, not a bloody tree branch,’ Charlie replied.
‘It’s an oak tree.’ Sin smiled. ‘And it was a twig not a branch you wuss. Watch out below!’
With that Sin slithered down the trunk and jumped to land a couple of feet in front of Charlie.
‘Hi.’ He brushed down his clothes, still smiling.
Charlie had been correct about Sin’s eyes, they were blue, but that didn’t do them justice, they were azure or sapphire or cerulean. Charlie realised he was staring, and blushed. He looked away fiddling with his briefcase on the ground. Of course from that position, if he looked straight up, he was blinded by the sun, but if he lowered his gaze a bit he was almost level with the zip on Sin’s jeans. The little piece of his brain still working, jolted Charlie backwards and he sat down hard.
‘Wow! I’ve never stunned someone with a ‘Hi’ before, very flattering.’ Sin smiled and sat down next to Charlie, who wasn’t sure how he’d got into this situation at all.
About the Author:
Izzy van Swelm is the alter ego of PBA reviewer, Beverley Jansen.
Izzy van Swelm is English, but took her Mother in Law’s maiden name as a pen name. Izzy dreams of a world where all sentient species have the rights and respect they deserve. Where LGBTQAI lovers and friends, old and young, can walk holding hands meeting nothing more than the occasional affectionate glance, like anyone else. A world where intelligence, gentleness and compassion are the overwhelming attributes of politicians, and religion is practiced by those who believe, but never forced on those who do not.
Izzy is a romantic, a dreamer and a vegetarian, and just a little eccentric. Izzy writes because she loves to tell stories, and she hopes that her stories will bring happiness, enjoyment and maybe to some…a little hope.
