After having been removed from his parents’ home for his own safety, Pierce Nevitt has lived his entire life at someone else’s whim. The tiger Omega has been protected and coddled from the outside world, denied the one thing he wants more than anything: Gavin.
Gavin Jackson ran away from Pierce, terrified of getting too attached, only to discover it was too late. Freshly graduated, he’s been assigned as one of Pierce’s bodyguards when he is moved to Smooth Rock Falls.
Now, someone is trying to kidnap Omegas, and the two of them need to figure out who and why before their newly re-kindled love is torn apart forever in Lynn Tyler’s newest addition to the bestselling Pack Mates series.
I enjoyed this addition to Lynn Tyler’s Pack Mates series. In this story, we learn more about the tiger shifters and more about what being an Omega means. The author spends a good bit of time letting the reader know why Pierce is guarded so much and why his life is so important to any group of shifters.
This is a friends to lovers and a second chance story. Gavin and Pierce have a history that is not all sunshine and roses. Gavin gave into familial pressure and hurt Pierce with his choices. Of course, once Peirce and the reader learn that his intentions were honorable, Gavin becomes a bit more likable. I am glad she gave us this insight into Gavin’s motivations because I was not liking him at first and really wanted Pierce to find someone who would treat him better. But in the end, Gavin redeems himself and this was really a cute love story. Pierce is adorable in his quest to learn to please Gavin. And Gavin is great in his alpha, overprotective, MINE attitude towards Pierce.
I also like that the author has set up a few options for the next book in the series. I really hope it is Jake. I hurt so much for him and the ending left things a bit open. The author could completely write him off or could have an entire story dedicated to his healing and finding his mate. I really hope it is the later and that the author gives him the HEA I want him to have.
I chose this particular rating because I felt the story was a bit disjointed and all over the place. There was so much going on and the gambling addiction was kind of thrown in for motivation to have the kidnapping, but every time I felt that the story could easily be resolved, there was more. I understand why it was there, the author had to resolve the plot element and the omega issue, but it distracted from the love story and really didn’t seem to flow all that well.
Overall, this was a good addition to the series. I am looking forward to the next installment.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
