Rob Rosen (ed.) on Men of the Manor ~ Interview, Local Giveaway

Prism Book Alliance would like to thank Rob Rosen (ed.) for taking the time to talk with us today.

Title: Men of the Manor
Author: Rob Rosen (ed.)
Publisher: Cleis Press
Publication Date: 08/18/2014
Genre/Sub-Genre: Contemporary, Erotica, Gay, Gay Fiction

English country houses, mystery and intrigue, sex and money—all go hand in hand in Men of the Manor, a collection of dizzyingly sexy encounters featuring randy aristocrats, eager stable boys and devoted footmen.

Does the aristocrat drop his grand manners when his manservant helps him undress? What happens behind the gilded door to a decadent party full of squiffy men on the make? And do the upstairs and downstairs chaps exchange more than pleasantries when the lamps are dimmed, the candles snuffed out and the ladies retire for the evening?

Prism recently reviewed Men of the Manor. You can find the review here.

We are here today to talk about Men of the Manor. What can you tell us about it?

The collected stories recount the romances between wealthy aristocrats and hard-working estate staff, all with a pre-World War 1 backdrop. Think Downton Abbey. The idea is similar, but, unlike the TV show, there’s way (way) more steamy sex. Men of the Manor is, in fact, an erotic new take on the D.A. theme: the sordid lives of the haves and the have-nots, and what can happen when the two classes find themselves beneath the sheets.

What about Men of the Manor makes you the most proud?

I’m most proud of the fact that the theme is something new and original. After all, class struggle and sex frequently go hand in hand, but you rarely see it portrayed in an erotica anthology. I’m also proud of all my contributors!

If you could change one thing in Men of the Manor what would it be and why?

I wish I could’ve made it longer. I had so many excellent stories to choose from, and it’s always diffcult to make the final cuts.

If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring writers, what would it be?

Never give up. Never. If you enjoy what you’re doing and you believe in yourself, eventually others will believe in you, too.

If you could have a conversation with any famous author, who would you want to get writing tips from and what skill of theirs would you like to emulate?

I’ve already met my three favorite authors: Gore Vidal, Tom Robbins, and Felice Picano. And I got to tell them how much I love their work and how much they’ve influenced me. I’m also lucky enough to say that I’ve worked with Felice numerous times now and have had many, many book readings with him. As for emulation, nah, I’m good with my own style of writing. Heck, it’s worked for me so far.

If the world were going to end tomorrow, how would you spend your last night on earth?

Do you know something I don’t know?

Tell us about some of your other titles.

All eight of my novels are romantic comedies. Most of my 300+ published short stories are as well. Feel free to check them all out at My latest novel, Creature Comfort, will be out in February. I do believe I’ve created a whole new genre for this one: a romantic comedy featuring drag queen zombies.

  1. Great Q&A! I love hearing there was so many great submissions. Maybe that means a 2nd volume? It’s something that sounds like there needs to be more of. Can’t wait to read it! Thanks for sharing and for the chance to win.
