Title: Shifting Weight
Author: Tina Blenke
Cover Artist: Latisha Waters
Genre/Sub-Genre: M/M Romance, Paranormal
Jason is a West Coast wolf Shifter who leaves his native Pack Lands to search for his destined mate. When he finds the large muscled man working out a local gym, Jason is ecstatic and apprehensive. Eric is a Changeless human and there are tense sides to the politically heated debate around the integration of Shifters and Changeless. Jason is at risk of losing control of his wolf without bonding with his destined mate. But, will Eric accept that Jason is a Shifter? And can Eric trust Jason after his heart has been left shattered from a previously failed relationship.
1. We are here today to talk about Shifting Weight. What can you tell us about it?
Shifting Weight is about a young wolf shifter who has lived his entire life on shifter territory and starts to feel the pull towards his mate off of the pack’s lands. The world is prejudiced against the segregated shifters and Jason has to be careful of who he tells about his secret. It’s about the struggle to find love between two races of humans and overcoming their own self-doubt so they can move forward.
2. Tell us more about Jason and Eric.
Jason is determined and won’t stop at anything to get what he wants. He has a dominating personality but wants to be dominated in a relationship so that his wolf form can be satisfied. He works in IT and has a bit of a geek streak running through him. Eric is a big bear of a man and is a personal trainer, but he’s soft spoken and is nervous about relationships. Both men are drawn to each other but must overcome the nagging voice of self-doubt to find happiness.
3. Is Shifting Weight the start of a series or is this the last we will hear from this world?
This started out as a simple short story but has grown on me. When I was writing, I could see the Shifter universe opening up and more stories are starting to spill out. I just finished the sequel to this story so we’ll see quite a bit more of Jason and Eric in the future.
4. What was your inspiration for this story?
The idea for the story happened one afternoon when I was at the gym. There was a guy working out at the squat rack next to me and another man approached him asking about his specific set of exercises. I didn’t think anything of it at the time but there must have been a plot bunny hopping around in the back of my mind. I started wondering about that conversation and where the characters came from and where they might be going and that same evening Shifting Weight was born. I was so taken up by the story that I stopped working on another novel to type it out. A few weeks later, it was complete. I think it’s a sweet story about two men that go out on a limb to find each other. They’ve both been around the block and are lonely, looking for friendship and happen to find each other at just the perfect moment in both their lives.
5. What are you reading right now and what is next on your to-be-read list?
I’m reading The Boyfriend Mandate by River Jaymes which is the second book in the Boyfriend Chronicles. I love these flawed characters! Next in my pile is Training Season by Leta Blake. I haven’t read anything by her yet but I have a couple of her books in the pile waiting for a late night read.
6. What book do you keep by your bed?
All of them! I have the Kindle app on my iPhone so I can read almost any book at any time. Even if I have print books with autographs, I have a digital copy so that I can read on the go. My phone is always on me and at night I tuck it under my pillow in case I need to jot a few notes down in the middle of the night or I need help falling back to sleep.
7. If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
It would be amazing if I could just summon food and drink at my whim. I get so caught up in reading or writing and it would be fantastic if I could just wave a hand and be presented with a buffet of yummy gourmet food. I love to cook but sometimes I just don’t have the time or I forget that time moves so fast when I’m totally absorbed in something and the next thing you know my kid is famished to the point of passing out or my puppies are seconds away from gnawing on my leg. I’d use my superpower for good, too, I promise!

Whew! Did I pass?
9. What are you working on? What is next?
Right now I’m stretching my legs in a contemporary novel written in the first person. It’s still a M/M romance and is currently the longest manuscript that I’ve ever written. It’s about two men at the end of their undergraduate years in university and they fall in love over the summer. Bad things happen, very bad things, and the men must choose different paths in life. But it’s okay, because it’s a romance so we know that good things will happen, too, but first there has to be a lot of crying and angst. I’m hoping to have this complete by the end of the month and then out to my absolutely talented beta readers.
The next two stories I have up my sleeve are sequels to Shifting Weight, so we can expect a minimum of four stories in this series. I’m also conjuring up ideas for another paranormal series with characters that are less than the usual vampire and werewolf.
Jason allowed himself to run that night. Elation filled him making it easier to relax and allow his wolf to flow into his mind and body. The shift was seamless, years of transitioning helped his wolf to take control in under a few painless minutes. Jason knew of wolves who could never shift because the pain was so intense. It was unknown what the cause was but some insisted that it was because the Shifter’s true mate had never been found and the man could not control the beast inside of him.
The old wives’ tale had haunted Jason especially as years passed without locating his mate. Now that he knew Eric existed, it was one less thing to worry about. Now he could focus on worrying about Eric finding out he was a Shifter. Eric’s acceptance. If the two would find love and happiness despite fate playing a factor, then, and only then, could Jason think about starting a family with Eric. Maybe he was jumping the gun, but he had always wanted a man to love and a family to care for. Was it too much to want? Shouldn’t he be satisfied with finding a mate? All of this thinking and stress was weighing him down. Yes, he had found his mate, but would Eric want Jason?
His legs pumped harder as he made his way across hills and through forests with large trees reaching up towards the skies. It was not the familiar woods of his home on the Pack Lands but it felt good to stretch his limbs, pull deep pulls of fresh air into his lungs, and feel the wind tickling through his fur all over his body. With a grin, he imagined his large bear of a mate with sexual wants that matched his own.
About the Author:
Tina is a retired Air Force brat and has lived in several states as well as a handful of countries. She has always had a soft spot for literature and is a voracious reader. When she isn’t writing, she can be found cuddled up with a good book. Though Tina adores a thrilling novel with sappy lovesick heroes, she is terrified of things that go bump in the night. This makes for quite a complicated relationship with zombies, something that she just can’t get enough of.
