Half an inch. Roman’s life has been taken over and destroyed by half an inch of poison-filled metal. Unable to deny the control Denzel now holds over him, Roman is no better than a puppet, controlled and used in however horrifying way the shadowkin leader orders. He longs for his freedom, an escape before he is forced to kill again, but without the ability to so much as lift a finger by his own choice, the most he can pray for is a merciful end.

Dorian is a Gregorian angel, tasked with witnessing the events of man, yet forbidden to interfere in any way. The consequences of breaking the Gregorian covenant are final, fatal, but something about Roman, the demon he finds imprisoned by the shadow elves, has him longing to break all the rules. Torn between duty and what his heart is telling him is right, Dorian chooses to fall, to touch the demon regardless of what the consequences will mean. He knows he has made the right decision and will happily live out the rest of his life with his choice, for however short that now might be.

PizzyGirl’s View:

Welcome back Ms. Cross! After the last two books in this series left me disappointed and unsatisfied, I was a bit worried about my reaction to this one, but no need. I LOVED it. The whole feel of the book was different from the rest. The first half was somber and almost hopeless, but knowing that Roman was the main character of this book, I knew that there had to be a way out of his predicament. And of course I was right. Dorian made the ultimate sacrifice and it tore my heart out knowing the consequences of his selfless act. But again, as a main character, I knew there had to be a way to save him. And what a way to save him! A very HOT and sexy way to save him. The author wrote another fantastic pairing. These men fit together well and the mating was well done.

The second half of the story brought back some of the humor and snarkiness that the series is known for. I really loved Roman and Dorian’s interactions. So playful and mischievous. Ms. Cross had me chuckling out loud at some of their antics and dialogue.

While I am sad that there is only one more book in this series, I can’t wait for it to come out. I need to know how this ends. The series ARC has been steadily progressing and in this book, things heat up even more. Ms. Cross wrote some amazing chaos in this book and now the guardians are preparing an army for the final showdown. I need more! I am so totally invested in this series and its outcome. I am so excited about the battle to come and cannot wait for Toby and Raziel to FINALLY be together. I really hope it is a happy ending to the series.
