With his fauxhawk, sleeve tattoos, and visible piercings, Ridley Corbin has the whole badass vibe going on in spades. The image serves him well as the self-proclaimed protector of the underdog, and he wants nothing more than to be Alex Firestone’s hero.
Alex, a mild-mannered library assistant, has moved to Slater, a quiet college town, hoping to hide from his past. He keeps to himself, but that doesn’t save him from catching the unwanted attention of the campus bully. But not all is as it seems. Alex’s past comes calling, and it’s time he becomes top dog.
My View – Story:
BAMF in audioformat it a perfect example of narration ruining a story. I was bored and almost put this one down because the story could not hold my attention with the the unexciting way the narrator presented the tale. Yes, it had some cool characters, some ridiculously HOT sex (or what should have been HOT but wasn’t because the sex scenes were read in the same tone as every other part of the story), a twist the blurb did not even start to hint at, and a nice HEA, but I just could not enjoy this one for the poor narration.
For a better review of this story, please see Caroline’s opinion here (http://www.prismbookalliance.com/2014/07/bamf-by-sjd-peterson-book-review-by-caroline/). Based on her review, I will be reading this on my own because listening to the story just did not leave me with a good impression.
My View – Narration:
This narrator did not work for me. His voice, while clear and easy to understand, was mostly monotone and completely devoid of emotion. There was some inflection and some change in cadence when times warranted, but no emotion, no sexual tension, no feeling that the narrator was anything other than apathetic reading this novel.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the audiobook of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
