Chris Lambrough is having a run of bad luck. He’s lost his job and his boyfriend and is feeling depressed. His best friend Jenny tells him about an ad she’s noticed where The Muddy Mountain Ski Resort is looking for waiters. Chris has restaurant experience and since his New Years Resolution is to learn to ski it seems like a nice opportunity to jump start his life.
Trevor Brown is a ski instructor at the resort. He befriends Chris right away and the have undeniable chemistry. But Trevor has guilt over the death of his lover, Lane two years earlier. Can the two of them learn to trust each other and move forward and forget the past?
Falling in Love by SC Wynne is one of those stories I have a really hard time reviewing. Part of me loved it, and part of me hated it.
I am pretty sure the dichotomy lies in my feelings about the main characters. I like one and am ambivalent bordering on dislike of the other. However, which is which changes several times throughout the story. All of which combines to leave me a bit wrong-footed and uncomfortable.
Chris is a bit of a mess, to put it lightly. He doesn’t seem to have much of a backbone and lets people tell him how to live his life. From former boyfriends to his best friend, to the love interest in the story and his boss, they tell him what to do… and he listens. I don’t think that any of the secondary characters are particularly healthy relationships for Chris, to be honest. For some reason, I wanted him to be happy and find love.
On the other side of the bed is Trevor. It is lust at first sight, but he has a shady past… well according to some. In all honesty, that part was never adequately resolved for my piece of mind. However, you can see his feelings for Chris are genuine, so that is a positive.
All that said; the story was encouraging. Chris has always gone for losers and never had anything permanent in his life. Trevor and the mountain, just might be the permanence for which he has been looking. I am not sure they are riding off into the sunset together, but I am pretty sure they are going to try.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
