Blurb:

Detectives Mark Ruxsberg and Chris Green are very good at their jobs. Being the enforcers for God and Day’s notorious Atlanta PD Narcotics Task Force causes the crazy duo to get into more trouble than they can often get out of. The pair never misses out on an opportunity to drive their Lieutenants crazy with their dangerous, reckless, and costly stunts, landing them in the hot seat in front God… often.

Ruxs and Green love their jobs and they don’t mind the very demanding schedule that leaves them little time for socializing or dating. It was fine with them, they enjoyed hanging out with each other anyway.

However, most of the men in their close circle of friends and colleagues are pairing off and settling down. God has Day, Ro has Johnson, and their Sergeant Syn has Furious.

For the past several years, Ruxs has only sought out the advice and company of one person, his partner and best friend Green, and vice versa. Both of these alpha males are presumed straight, but neither can deny the heat that’s building in their once ‘just friends’ relationship.

Caroline’sView:

Another fast paced story filled with Alpha Males from the Nothing Special Series.

Rux and Green are partners on the elite task force led by God and Day and are often in trouble for their ‘style’ of work. They seem to cause chaos wherever they go but there is a lot humour in their antics and that humour is definitely part of the story. When not at work they spend all their time together and each of them is the first person they turn to when they have a problem. They are like an old married couple without the relationship. Green is bi and has always had a crush on his partner, he has held of acting on it to preserve their friendship but as the years have passed that crush has become so much more. Rux has never been in a relationship with another man and finds himself embarrassed that his seemingly straight partner turns him on. A simple massage scares the life out of him and he has no idea how to deal with his new feelings.

Rux has a nightmare of a mother whose addiction to drugs has taken away any love she used to have for him. Everything that comes out of her mouth is vile and hurtful and is meant to upset her son but he is embarrassed and doesn’t like his partner to see too much. When a visit to her house ends up with her nearly killing him he drowns his sorrows and heads straight to the person he trusts and values most in the world and finally both men see what is so obviously in front of them. There is not a huge amount of angst when the pair gets together but there is a little desperation as they finally get what they want. Green is more experienced and wants to take the sexual side of their new relationship more slowly giving Rux a chance to catch up with this new side of himself.

It was great to catch up with all the characters from the previous books and also Curtis, the young boy who God and Day helped, plays a huge part in the story. His mother finally loses her fight against illness and though the situation is not easy he ends up living with Rux and Green who he has grown close to over the years. God’s brother Genesis seems smitten by the young man and that is a book I am looking forward to!

This pair was perfect for each other. Their story is more about their friendship and relationship rather than the adrenaline fueled drug busts of the previous books but I found I didn’t miss out on those details as their relationship was far more important.
