Officer Chance Carter is pretty sure he’d still enjoy being on either end of a good ass reaming–just not the one from his supervisor that lands him on an involuntary extended vacation. Another holiday season with nothing to do except visit an old friend. Former hospital corpsman Bryan Mitchell doesn’t feel less than honorable, but that’s what his discharge paperwork states. Now he is down and out in Kingman, Arizona until the charity of a stranger lands him a temporary job for the holidays. When two federal employees go missing during a highly controversial wild horse roundup, the two Willow Springs Ranch newcomers are drafted to help in the search, but if rumors of a local anti-government militia are true, Chance and Bryan may be in serious trouble–and from something far more dangerous than their mutual attraction.
Taking Chance is book 3 in the Willow Springs Ranch series. It is the story of Bryan, an other than honorably discharged Navy corpsman, and Chance, a border patrol officer we met in book 2. Their relationship was a bit fast for my liking but it works for these men. They were both broken to some extent and needed love to fill in the missing pieces. These men were good together and push the other to want the best in life. So even though I wish there was more relationship development, what was there was good and I loved seeing them get together. I like the hint of power exchange between the men. It enhanced the imagination of just how HOT the sexy times between them will be.
The biggest thing for me in this book was the introduction of the major plot theme that looks to carry forward into multiple books in this series and it was a good one. It brought more mystery into the series and did so with a bang. Up to this point, the men of the WSR have mostly been dealing with local issues and finding love, but now they have a purpose and ways to put each man’s strengths to use. The author has shown that she can weave a love story around action and it worked for me. I am excited to find out more about the bad guys and what motivates them, who they are, and how they will affect the WSR. I am fully invested now and can’t wait for book 4.
