ull Nelson: Book Three
Detective Chris Nelson faces another murder investigation. This time the victims are educators—a college professor and a high school teacher—and both are gay. Jared Bressman, the first victim, is found strangled in his apartment. A few days later, Stephen Hayes is found in his home, a victim of the same type of assault. Chris must piece together the clues to find a connection—if there is one—between the murders and stop the killer before he strikes again. Once he discovers that the killer also has a link to someone close to him, Chris races to beat the murderer to his final victim.
I will be honest; I have no idea why I picked up Teacher’s Pet by Jeff Erno. No, that is somewhat of a lie; I know why I did it. I just can’t leave a series that I start un-read. I reviewed books one (Secrets) and two (Glitter) of the Full Nelson series last year, so I had to pick up Teacher’s Pet when it was offered.
I won’t say that I regret reading this story. There is nothing wrong with the story. The writing is exactly what I expected based on the first two in the series and the other Jeff Erno stories I have read in the past. I could repeat many of the same complaints I had from the first two books. Sex scenes that have nothing to do with the story, flat characters who are more caricature than person, and predictable plot with a transparent mystery.
As with the first two installments in the Full Nelson series, Teacher’s Pet offers us a rather heavy-handed moral. The lesson in Teacher’s Pet centered around the destructive nature of religious anti-gay teachings.
At the end of the day, I did choose to read it so there must be something about this series that keeps me coming back. I guess that is the most telling part. I did choose to spend an hour of my life reading this story and writing a review.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
