A Work in The Guy Series
Anthony Carrino loves his big, gregarious Italian-American family, even if his sisters are interfering, and his dad, the local sheriff, knows everything going on in town. He’s happy as a middle school guidance counselor. Despite helping kids and their parents fix their problems, Anthony can’t manage to get his own love life right. If only everyone would stop calling him the “nice” guy.
Dean Pierce doesn’t do relationships. A tough-minded military man, he is dedicated to his job as a Night Stalker, flying Chinook helicopters and not speaking much to anybody. He certainly doesn’t want to deal with a mess of emotions. But when tragedy strikes, Dean finds his hands full with his troubled niece, her irresistible guidance counselor, and a meddlesome family, which includes a rather large puppy.
My View – Story:
I read this book back when it was first released. I enjoyed it so when the audiobook came out, I grabbed the chance to take a second shot at this story.
For me this was a slow and steady read. There was no huge conflict or mysterious plot twist, but it was a steady development of love and family that kept me interested from start to finish. I like an alpha male, and Dean fits that bill. But even more, I like an alpha male who needs love and who is slightly insecure inside. Dean fits that bill too. He is thrown into the unknown with his niece and with Anthony, a man who is his complete opposite. I had fun watching Dean adjust and fumble.
I loved Anthony and his family. So open, loving, and accepting. So loud and boisterous that I could just imagine all the characters smiling and having a great time whenever they are around this family. I love that they take in Dean and his niece without a second thought other than for Dean to be careful with their son’s heart. This family made for great comic relief and extra happiness as the plot moved forward.
Some of you may not like this story because it is not action packed or rushed or full of external conflicts. But it was well written and had a very happy ending. It was a smooth read with heart. Oh, and the sex is HOT.
This one is set up nicely for continuation with Aaron’s story.
My View – Narration:
This is my first time listening to Matt Baca. I thought he had a pleasant voice and I had no trouble distinguishing the individual characters. He portrayed the emotions appropriately and I would listen to him again.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the audiobook of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
