Since the death of his submissive lover two years ago, Leo hasn’t been living–merely existing. He focuses on making Collars & Cuffs, a BDSM club in Manchester’s gay village, successful. That changes the night he and his business partner have their weekly meeting at Severinos. Leo can’t keep his eyes off the new server. The shy man seems determined to avoid Leo’s gaze, but that’s like a red rag to a bull. Leo loves a challenge.
Alex Daniels works at Severinos to scrape together the money to move out on his own. He struggles with coming out, but he’s drawn to Leo, the gorgeous guy with the icy-blue eyes who’s been eating in his area nearly every night.
Leo won’t let Alex’s hesitance get in the way. He even keeps him away from the club so as not to scare him. And as for telling Alex that Leo is a dom? Not a good idea. One date becomes two, but date two leads to Leo’s bedroom…and Alex discovers things about himself he never realized and never wanted anyone to see.
My View – Story:
There are a lot of components to this story that make it fantastic read or listen.
First off we have an experienced Dom Leo who lost his previous sub/lover in an accident two years ago. He was in love with this man, he was loved by this man and he is certainly still mourning this man. He hasn’t been involved with the BDSM lifestyle very much apart from dealing with the club, Collars and Cuffs, where he is part owner.
Alex hasn’t had a lover before. He has not long returned home from College but is too afraid to come out to his parents. As well as struggling with hiding his sexuality he is afraid of how he feels, what he wants from a relationship and worries his thoughts make him depraved. Alex is a natural submissive but has no idea what that means and how it works in a relationship.
When Leo and Alex meet there is certainly an instant attraction but there are also feelings of grief, a little betrayal and Alex is full out terrified. After a little flirting, and a little bravery from Alex as he comes out to a work colleague, they go on a few dates.
Leo keeps his role in the club and the fact that he is a sexual dominant from Alex, something that backfires badly when Alex finds out. With Alex needing to submit more and more the two should be perfect for each other as they mesh in all other areas but when Alex finds out he has been deceived by omission and is both jealous and angry about what he learns it looks as though things may be over before they really got started. Leo is made all too aware of just what he stands to lose.
Alex grows tremendously throughout the story finally finding the strength to face his family and becoming comfortable with his desires. Leo is finally able to move forward when he realises that loving another man is not a betrayal.
This is sweet, romantic and hot!
My View – Narration:
Nick J Russo is very clear when you listen to his narration and didn’t do a bad job at all. If I have one complaint it would be that sometimes he sounds a little flat and all the voices start to sound the same.
