I’m getting my basement redone this year. It’s finished, but it wasn’t finished that well and there’s some water damage from a bad snowstorm a couple years back. Also, the bathroom, while a full bath, is unusable and I’d like it to be useable.
Actually, I’d like the space to be useable in general. It’s currently where I throw my crap. And there’s a lot of crap down there. After ten years in one place, I am in desperate need of editing my crap.
Which is kind of like writing. Keep the essential stuff, the things that have meaning and add spark and let go of the rest. So upcoming, that’s going to be my approach to getting rid of some of the crap: is it essential? Does it have real meaning to the plot of my life? Does it add spark to the story I’m writing every day?
If not, out it goes. Either I’ll recycle it or donate it, for the most part.
And then my life will have a bit more room.
As an aside, the contractor gentlemen noticed my whiteboard in the living room, where I list my works in progress and I told them I wrote romance novels. They asked if I was published, and I said yes.
Later one of the guys dug for more details and I gave him my pen name and told him that I was pretty sure my books weren’t his thing.
The next conversation should be interesting… but hey, I’m tired of hiding something that I’m not actually ashamed of. And I have no real reason to, so why not?
