Title: Rules to Live By
Author: Heidi Belleau & Lisa Henry

Rules to Live By – a BDSM Anthology featuring stories from Heidi Belleau, Anah Crow, Dianne Fox, Lisa Henry, Cari Z, and Anna Zabo
Four intimate tales of power exchange, discipline, risks taken, and pleasures earned.
A list of rules to live by.
In Cari Z’s House Rules, jealousy leads Jonathan to break the rules his lover has established. He can’t decide which he enjoys more: his punishment, or the reward afterward. Good thing he gets both.
A lesson in humility.
In The Harder They Fall by Heidi Belleau and Lisa Henry, spoiled college boy Tad hires a prostitute, but “Daddy” couldn’t care less about what Tad wants. Instead, he’s going to give his spoiled little boy exactly what he deserves.
A cage that means freedom.
In Master Key by Anah Crow and Dianne Fox, Marquis offers Navin the key to the most intimate of locks, hoping it will help them to prioritize their relationship. And it does—until work and insecurities threaten to drive them apart again.
A spool of rope and a desire to be bound.
In CTRL Me by Anna Zabo, a night out between friends turns hot and tempting when Gabe deliberately pushes Tom’s submissive buttons. Then Tom discovers rope in Gabe’s glove box—and not the type for securing luggage.
Hi! We’re Lisa Henry and Heidi Belleau. We wrote The Harder They Fall, a story in Riptide’s awesome Rules to Live By anthology. Today we’re here to tell you a bit about it!
Our MC, Tad Jameson, is not a nice guy. He’s a rich, white, spoiled, entitled college boy. The sort of sneering little asshole you hear about running over pedestrians in his sports car or spitting on airline crew members and then somehow getting away with it. The sort of asshole whose daddy has to come running with a checkbook to make all his legal problems disappear. In The Harder They Fall, Tad’s about to meet a different sort of daddy…
It can be fun, writing this sort of kink, particularly with a character like Tad. Tad gets off on humiliating people, so hopefully our readers will be cheering when he gets the tables turned on him. Of course, it’s not quite that simple. Tad might start off the story as a shallow, egotistical little creep, but he’s more complex than that. The face he presents to the world, and even to himself most of the time, isn’t the real him. At least, it’s not all there is to him.
The real balancing act for us (and our editors at Riptide) was to write a character like Tad that readers could sympathise with withOUT–as they say in fandom–”woobifying him”, or making him have hidden angst and misery that completely excuses his behaviour. The way we wound up doing that was to let him have secret insecurities and hurts, but to NOT let Daddy get swayed by them. Sure, I think there’s a little bit of affection for Tad in this story on behalf of Daddy, this isn’t a non-con punishment fantasy after all, but Daddy’s whole raison d’etre with Tad is to be fair but firm, loving but tough, and that means seeing all those little weaknesses and caring for Tad through them, but also never letting him off the hook for his truly miserable behaviour. One of the working titles for this story was “Humbled”, and we hope by the time you’re finished reading, you’ll see just how much being humbled and actually facing consequences for his behaviour and not having Daddy Moneybags make all his problems go away actually humanizes Tad into someone you can empathise with, someone you can still think is a little shit who needs a spank on the ass, but maybe just maybe can grow into a decent person.
With his new Daddy’s guiding hand, of course.
