Orgasmic Texas Dawn

Canadian cop Kieran Fox has fallen from grace after a disastrous romance with the wrong guy—the head of a drug cartel. When Sheriff Dillon DePriest moseys on up north begging Kieran to come to his town of Lone Trail, Texas, to help him deal with a gang of murderous drug dealers, Kieran agrees, if only to get away from the scene of his own crime.

Soon thereafter, Kieran learns that the tough little Texas town is knees-deep in an escalating mystery. There’s a cross-dressing Cher impersonator, a killer missing some gold teeth and his…er…dangly bits. And worse, there’s Kieran’s growing attraction for Lone Trail’s sexy U.S. Marshal, Jubilee Mason, that he neither wants nor needs.

Longing

Canadian cop Kieran Fox and U.S. Marshal Jubilee Mason fight their growing mutual attraction as they deal with a new menace to life in Lone Trail, Texas…a cartel trafficking dangerous, home-brewed drugs, and distributing them throughout the state and beyond.

For Kieran, the shocking discovery that his own father may be deeply involved in the cartel is the worst kind of betrayal. Now, neither Kieran nor Jubilee know whom to trust as it becomes clear that the cartel has a powerful grip on many influential people around them.

And soon, Kieran must make a decision—should he surrender to his burgeoning feelings for Jubilee and trust him, or will he maintain his emotional distance and continue longing for the man of his dreams?

Slow Dance

U.S. Marshal Jubilee Mason and Canadian detective Kieran Fox want to find a way to be together, but fate may decide things for them.

When the men begin a joint undercover operation at a Texas cathouse to stop a child sex-slave ring in its tracks, their growing feelings soon overshadow the risky operation.

Can Kieran and Jubilee find a way to truly love each other and commit to a long-term relationship, or will this be their very last dance?

Brandilyn’sView:

I first saw a little book by the name of Orgasmic Texas Dawn show up on the site of a publisher that shall remain nameless. I was intrigued because, well… TEXAS. Yeah, I am a glutton for Texas-based books. I never did get around to reading that book, however. I did see it grow from one book to two and then more… then they went away. They are, however, back with a new publisher. Again, I was intrigued, but let them go by without picking them up for a while. I finally caved.

The OTD series can be broken up by the main couple in the story. For the first four books in the series, Jubilee and Keiran take center stage.

Their story is told in Orgasmic Texas Dawn, Longing, Slow Dance, and Last Dance. You should plan to read all four as they don’t manage their HEA until the end of the fourth book.

Keiran and Jube are an odd couple. Two alpha’s with only law enforcement in common. One from small-town Texas, the other from Vancouver BC. Over the course of the four stories, we find out more and more about Keiran’s past. Jube’s past isn’t quite as clear-cut. I have a feeling we may still be learning about Jube, however.

The town is as much a character in the story as anything else. It is full of interesting and corrupt people. It is full of hatred and bigotry, drugs and prostitution, murder and mayhem. However, I was not sad to see that it was one character that will not carry over to future installments. There are a few characters I genuinely liked, and of whom I will be glad to see more. Namely Trace, US Marshall and friend to Jube and Keiran, and Pauline, sister to Jube.

Each installment has a plot that is completed by the end of the story. We are then left with a teaser for the next story.

The arc that isn’t resolved at the end of each story is the romance. My first thought was insta-love! So here is the thing about insta-love. It isn’t a matter of timeline, it is a matter of the author convincing me the characters are in love. In the first installment of OTD, I never found the connection between Jube and Keiran. Then, all of a sudden, they are declaring their love. It just felt off. However, by the end of the four-story arc, I completely believed the love between these two characters.

The mysteries while intriguing, seemed almost superficial and rushed. With only about 40k words in each installment, there wasn’t a lot of time to build the characters, the romance, and the mystery. Some serious topics were brought to light and then dismissed time and again.

There were a few things in these stories that annoyed me. First of all, the inaccurate and stereotypical portrayal of small-town Texas had my hackles raised. I am a Texan, after all. Second the nomenclature used throughout the stories was inconsistent. I often found non-American terms creeping into Jube’s first person perspective.

All in all I am glad I stuck with these four stories and will be continuing the series to see what Nick and Sean have for us.
