What if the last thing you felt was the kiss of a knife? Rasputin’s kiss is lethal. He’s a ghost-killing and disappearing into the night. With few leads and four bodies on his conscience, Detective Inspector Alex Courtney and his team are running on empty and it’s only a matter of time before Rasputin strikes again. When Alex recruits a young detective to play the part of his boyfriend and provide a tempting target for a killer, he knows he is taking a huge risk. He doesn’t expect Conor Trethuan to be a perfect potential submissive. When their mutual attraction becomes more, Alex has to face the conflict between his possessive instincts and the need to push his young lover into danger. Investigating their feelings has to come second to investigating the case. There’s no time to decide if what they feel for each other is real. With Rasputin closing in, they may not live to find out.

Four dead bodies and the only thing that seems to connect them is the fact that they were all gay. DI Alex Courtney and his team are at their wits end. The deaths are brutal, the bodies abused and dumped and no one has any idea who the perpetrator is. The killer has been named Rasputin.

The only option left is to set up someone as bait. Alex will take on a pretend boyfriend with similar looks to the victims and see if they can draw the killer out into the open.

Detective Connor Trethuan spoke up about being harassed and it ended badly for him. Recovering from a knee injury he has been assigned to a homophobic boss referred to as ‘satan’ and confined to menial tasks in the basement. His one bit of luck in the past few months seems to be that he bears a strong resemblance to four murder victims and is pulled onto the investigating team to play Alex’s boyfriend. He may not be that lucky at all!

There is an instant attraction between Alex and Connor and the pretend part of their relationship last all of two days. It’s quick, it’s hot and it will undoubtedly end up messy! Alex is naturally dominant and although he recognises the submissiveness in Connor the man is by no means aware of it himself. Connor’s body may well recognise and enjoy what Alex brings out in him but he is in a constant battle with his mind. LM Somerton seems to bring us strong Doms and bratty subs that work really well together and ensure there is never a dull moment.

As their feelings intensify so too does Alex’s fear of putting Connor into a dangerous situation. It’s too late however for second thoughts as the bait has been taken. Their killer is far more intelligent than anyone has given him credit for and he is able to spirit Connor away under everyone’s noses. The odds are not in their favour as they scramble to bring Connor home alive.
