Blurb:

Can a desperate wizard and a bitter, disillusioned vampire find a way to build the partnership that could save their world?

In a world rocked by magical war, vampires are seen by many as less than human, as the stereotypical creatures of the night who prey on others. But as the war intensifies, the wizards know they need an advantage to turn the tide in their favor: the strength and edge the vampires can give them in the battle against the dark wizards who seek to destroy life as they know it.

In a dangerous move and show of good will, the wizards ask the leader of the vampires to meet with them, so that they might plead their cause. One desperate man, Alain Magnier, and one bitter, disillusioned vampire, Orlando St. Clair, meet in Paris, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance of their decision: Will the vampires join the cause and form a partnership with the wizards to win the war?

Caroline’s View:

Why is it when you have put off a series for ages that when you finally come to read it you are kicking yourself for leaving it so long? This is one of those series and after Alliance in Blood I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and learn more about Alain and Orlando.

The paranormal world is at war and the dark wizards are not easily defeated. In a final bid for stability the good wizards reach out to the vampires for help and get a lot more than they bargained for.

First the world building; the story is set in France and there are a lot of old tales about interactions between vampires and wizards, most not ending well, but not a lot of facts. Vampires don’t have it easy and what they want out of any alliance is mainly respect. The tales of old will have you believe that a wizard’s blood is poisonous to a vampire but when the exact opposite is proved true it seems the options are endless and they may have found their secret weapon.

Alain is a wizard who has paid heavily for his part in the war, his wife and son are dead. He hasn’t really ‘lived’ since their deaths and is one of the most trusted amongst his peers.

Orlando was turned a long time ago against his will and very badly abused by his sire for decades. He has moved on, gaining a small amount of closure when he killed his abuser, but he is not in a happy place. He misses taste, he misses sunlight, he is not taken seriously by his peers and he has never taken a lover.

These two men are sent as envoys to meet each other to try and bring about an alliance. From the moment they meet, from the first taste of Alains blood the two become bound. Yes, its insta love but it’s also a lot more. They disprove so many myths with that one meeting and they both may just be the answer to bringing both groups together. Alain’s blood offers Orlando so much more than sustenance or the ability to tell whether he speaks the truth. If every vampire can find their ‘own’ wizard their ranks against the dark wizards will instantly double.

Of course not everyone is happy about this discovery or what it means for them and it will be interesting to see how the story plays out in the following books.
