The Shifters: Book One
Humane Officer Derek Wiliams has been toying with the idea of asking out Brian O’Donogue since the veterinarian started working at the Pet Rescue Center two years ago. So why hasn’t he made his move? It’s complicated… but it has something to do with the fact that Derek occasionally likes to run around on four legs instead of two.
Recovering from an abusive relationship and hiding supernatural abilities of his own, Brian takes a chance and agrees to go on a date with Derek. The ensuing relationship is better than either of them could have hoped—until a rogue wolf shifter attacks Brian while he’s walking his dogs. The abrupt attack forces Derek to confront his feelings, but the danger isn’t over. The rogue shifter is out there, and he’s hunting them.
The Shifters is a series by MD Grimm. Each story loosely ties together in the smae world by the inclusion of two opposing groups, The Agency and The Knights. One for good and one not. It depends who you ask which is which.
In Psychic Moon and Celtic Warrior and Wolf Spirit, we follow the same two main characters, wolf-shifter Derek and human pet psychic Brian.
Psychic Moon is the first book in The Shifters series. It is a human/wolf pairing. However, outside of the romance between Brian and Derek, there isn’t a whole lot of world-building involved in this installment. We are introduced to The Agency, the governing body for shifters of all types. They are also the cleanup-crew and protector of the secret.
The main conflict in Psychic Moon centers around Derek’s decision whether to out himself as a shifter to his boyfriend, Brian. There is also a wolf on the hunt. That whole scenario is not explained well. It does, however, hint at something more sinister that will be, I have a feeling, expanded in later installments. else.
Overall I felt this story was beginning to a world I will have to keep reading to understand…. with a sweet romance thrown in.
Celtic Warrior and Wolf Spirit
In Celtic Warrior and Wolf Spirit we celebrate Derek and Brian’s first Christmas together by confronting Brian’s abusive ex. We know from Psychic moon that the ex is a little off his rocker, we get a front row seat in Celtic Warrior. We also get a front row seat to Derek’s possessive and frankly scary temper. I wasn’t completely sure I liked Derek for Brian after Psychic warrior, unfortunately, after his display in Warrior, I am not any better comforted.
I would like to say this is a sweet look at after the HEA, but it isn’t. There is sweetness and romance. There is also blood and violence. In the end, however, Brian and Derek are on the same page and in love.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
