Book 1 of the Being(s) in Love series
Author: R. Cooper
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Cover Artist: Paul Richmond
Rating: 4.75 of 5 Stars
Being a police detective is hard. Add the complication of being a werewolf subject to human prejudice, and you might say Ray Branigan has his work cut out for him. He’s hot on the trail of a killer when he realizes he needs help.
Enter Cal Parker, the beautiful half-fairy Ray’s secretly been in love with for years—secretly, because while werewolves mate for life, fairies… don’t. Ray needs Cal’s expertise, but it isn’t easy to concentrate with his mate walking around half-naked trying to publicly seduce him. By the time Ray identifies the killer—and sorts out a few prejudices of his own—it may be too late for Cal.
I was absolutely delighted with this story! It had tension and sweetness but wasn’t saccharine. The underlying case was interesting but didn’t take over the story. I enjoyed the action that was there and also the sexy times.
Ray put himself through so much heartache though. It was hard to see him struggle against his need, even though chose to do what he did because he was trying to do what he thought was best. Cal was wonderfully fae with his candy addiction, flightiness and smell but I was glad there was more to him than what you saw. Together they complimented each other.
There were also good supporting characters and a reasonable mystery to figure out. The pacing was good and I devoured the book in short order.
I am looking forward to more stories in this world.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
