Healing Hunter’s Heart Blog Tour by CHarlie Cochet – Enforcers and the Devil Dogs:
Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me on another stop of the Healing Hunter’s Heart Blog Tour celebrating the release of the second book in the Little Bite of Love series. If you haven’t read the first book—An Intrepid Trip to Love, it’s available for free from either my website or All Romance eBooks.
On our last stop, we chatted about the canine shifters who live in the Province of St. Veles and what the clans are like. How they have their own sets of laws and rules, many which date back to the time of their ancestors. Although most canine shifter clans live in relative peace, there are always dangers lurking. A clan’s unity, loyalty, and strength help to maintain its longevity. The longer a clan has been established and the more honorable its members, the greater the reputation. Reputation is extremely important to canine shifters. A name carries a lot of weight.
Over the years, the reputations of certain clan members have been tainted by malicious rumor and changes in canine shifter society. One such reputation is that of Enforcer. It’s a title that carries a great burden and several connotations. Without Enforcers, canine shifter clans wouldn’t survive. Enforcers are the muscle of the clan. Its protectors. They’re always half-breeds, a mix of wolf and canine, containing the best of both breeds. Enforcers are the largest and strongest of canine shifters. Their duty and loyalty to the clan comes above all else. Enforcers rarely leave the clan they are born into. At least not willingly.
During the time of their ancestors, Enforcers were personal guards to Tsars and princes. They also served as advisors to their Alphas. Over the years, malicious and envious canine shifters looked to knock Enforcers off their pedestals. After many years of suffering at the hands of those more powerful and ambitious than them, Enforcers began to be looked upon as rabid dogs. Their fierceness seen as a sign of the wild beasts they are.
Each clan looks upon their Enforcers differently. In the Hagan Clan, Enforcers were considered a necessary evil. They were looked down on and ignored. Many clans choose to raise and train their Enforcers away from the purebloods to ensure no relationships are formed. In clans like the Deagan Clan, Enforcers are family. They’re treated with respect and high social standing. Enforcers risk their lives to protect. Loyalty and honor is valued above all and they take pride in their title.
Throughout St. Veles, there are several Enforcers who’ve created quite the reputation for themselves. Among them, the Devil Dogs, named as such after a rumor spread during their childhood stating they were born with Demon Dog blood running through their veins. From childhood, the Devil Dogs have been feared. There’s a certain otherworldly vibe that follows them.
Hunter and Boone Devin are brothers. They’ve embraced their title of Devil Dogs, using it to strike fear in the hopes of avoiding bloodshed. Often, their reputation alone is enough to scare off even the toughest canine shifter. Only those who truly know the brothers, those who call them friend, family, or lover, know the true manner of shifters they are. Should force be needed, the brothers more than live up to their reputations.
