After several years of happy coupledom, Matt and Evan can relax in the knowledge that their little family has survived the worst of it. The two older girls are away at college, the twins have yet to fully hit teen angst, Matt is doing well with his part time security consulting, and Evan is about to be promoted to captain—it seems like things are calm and bright.
Until they aren’t.
As the holidays approach, Evan and Matt get a shock no parent is ever prepared for: feisty Miranda, Evan’s eldest, has a new boyfriend, Kent, and they are talking marriage after just three months together. In fact, Miranda wants to bring him to Thanksgiving dinner—along with his parents, Blake and Cornelia.
Lives are in transition as everyone gathers at the stunning Hamptons beach home of Daisy and Bennett to celebrate the christening of their new baby. Griffin and Jim—secretly growing tired of their rootless lifestyle—are in a rocky spot in their relationship. And as the godfather, Griffin finds himself yearning for something he’s sure Jim won’t be interested in.
Matt and Evan are looking to reconnect during the long weekend, as their respective careers pull them in separate directions. With less time spent together, Evan grows concerned about what will happen when the last two kids leave the nest.
1st Edition of Cherish published as an eBook by Loose Id LLC, November 2012.
My View – Story:
Cherished 4.5 Stars
Moving on a few years after the last book Matt and Evan are an established couple whose lives revolve around the children, their home and their work. Matt is doing well with his private security company and Evan is due an important promotion. The twins are still living at home but Miranda and Katie are happily ensconced in their college lives.
When Evan discovers his eldest daughter Miranda has been talking about marriage when he hasn’t even met the man involved things take a stressful turn just before Thanksgiving. When Evan confronts her about her relationship and plans he is left hurt by her harsh words.
Miranda has not got over losing her mother and is resentful of Matt being in her father’s life feeling she has been pushed to one side. When she brings her boyfriend and his parents’ home for Thanksgiving without any information about her family life things are tense before there is a full out explosion.
Matt and Evan are strong together and no matter what games or excuses Miranda made for her poor behaviour they didn’t let it go without making her take responsibility for her actions yet they were still sympathetic to the reasons behind her behaviour.
In the end although it was the holidays from hell Matt and Evan pulled together and you could sense how much they cared for each other and how much their relationship had grown. Not all problems were resolved in the end but they were at least being acknowledged and worked on.
Blessed 3 Stars
This is almost like a wrap up of a lot of situations from the previous books and a catch up with some of the earlier characters. To me it was slightly confusing and I felt like I was given information overload as it flipped from situation to situation.
If you want to find out what nearly all the characters from the previous books have been up to or what they are planning in the future then this is the book for you.
The main thing I took away from Blessed that is that Matt and Evan are still very much in love even with all the ups and downs that life presents them. I think I am right in saying there is a final book due in this series soon and Blessed has paved the way for that perfectly.
My View – Narration:
JP Handler is not my favourite narrator but he did a decent job in both these stories.
