Title: In the Flesh
Author: Ethan Stone
Publisher: DSP Publications
Cover Artist: Aaron Anderson
Genre/Sub-Genre: Gay, Mystery
Reno Detective Cristian Flesh is an out and unashamed cop, but his slutty ways might be his downfall. Christian lives by a strict set of personal rules, preferring hook-ups and anonymous encounters to committed relationships. His guidelines work for him… until one of his tricks is murdered and he becomes the prime suspect.
Leave it to handsome lawyer Colby Maddox to save Christian’s life. He takes the case and the attraction between them is quick and undeniable. After several passion-filled encounters with Colby, Christian unexpectedly wants to break all his rules. However, before they can contemplate a future together, they’ll have to clear Christian’s name and find the real murderer.
We are here today to talk about the re-release of In the Flesh. What can you tell us about it?
The re-release of all the Flesh books came about after a discussion with Elizabeth North regarding DSP’s new imprint DSP Publications, featuring novels with a focus less on romance and more on other aspects, such as mystery. We agreed the Flesh series would be a good fit for the imprint. In the Flesh was re-edited though no plot points were changed. It was mainly grammar and punctuation issues corrected as well as tense issues. Though my writing style has changed a great deal since I wrote In the Flesh, I tried not to alter too much. The voice I had back then meshed well with Cristian Flesh’s personality.
Tell us more about Cristian Flesh?
He’s an asshole and I love that about him. In the beginning he sleeps around and doesn’t feel bad about it at all. Cristian has a strict set of rules that keep him from getting hurt. These rules start going out the window once he meets Colby Maddox.
What about In the Flesh makes you the most proud?
That’s he unapologetic about who and what he is. He doesn’t hide his sexuality from his co-workers and he defends his right to be who he is. Yeah, he sleeps around, but he’s upfront with the men about what he wants. He doesn’t lie to get guys in bed, he just doesn’t have to.
Cristian Flesh is not your typical hero. Actually, he is a bit of an ass. However, I can’t help but love him. How did you turn him into a sympathetic character?
By showing the cracks in his armor with Gabe and Lex and mostly with Colby.
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring writers, what would it be?
Just keep writing.
What is the nicest thing a reader has said to you in a review, email, in person, or on social media?
That something I wrote helped them through a tough time.
What are you reading right now and what is next on your to-be-read list?
Right now I’m reading Accidental Contact and Other Mahu Investigations by Neil S. Plakcy. I’m a big fan of the entire Mahu series. Next up is Fair Play by Josh Lanyon.

About the Author:
Ethan Stone is an out and proud gay man. Which is fairly new in his life, the out part, not the gay part. He’s been queer his whole life, though he tried to deny it for years with a wonderful woman. The years in denial weren’t all bad, he has two amazing kids out of it. His son is a teenager and his daughter has made him a grandfather, three times over. A way too young grandfather.
Ethan has returned to Oregon after almost a decade in Nevada. He no longer has a day job and is doing his best to make a living at this writing thing. If he can’t make a living, he at least wants to support his Mt. Dew and beef jerky addictions.
