Good morning, my lovelies. I hope you and yours are well.
I am very proud of myself today. I know I should probably post something prosaic about writing but, instead, I hope you will indulge me as I share with you the outcome of my mission – Operation Puppy!
We’ve been talking about getting a new puppy for a while, so the kids knew we were going to at some point. What they didn’t know is, two weeks ago, while they were at their dad’s, I went to see a Yorkshire Terrier puppy. I fell in love with him immediately and luckily the woman said she would hold onto him for another couple of weeks for me.
I am terrible for keeping secrets. One year I got my husband his dream present of a flying lesson for his birthday. Had a whole scenario planned involving blind folds – no not that kind of scenario! – then got so excited and overwhelmed, I blabbed the night before his birthday!
I was determined not to repeat the same mistake and I pulled it off! Yay me! I told the kids we were going on a shopping trip with my friend Karen and that we were dropping something off at a friend of hers on the way. OMG the moaning I had yesterday morning about the fact they had to leave technology for random shopping. But I still didn’t crack!
When we got to the house, we went in and the puppy came toddling towards us and I picked it up. The kids were like, oh he’s so cute, blah blah and then I said to Alex, “What do you think?” and he said, “It’s so cute, mum.” to which I replied, “Good, Happy Easter!” and put the puppy in his hands. He actually gasped and caught on right away, Gracie took a few minutes longer. I said to her, “Shall we take him home then?” and she looked at me and shook her head and said, “Don’t be silly, mum, we already have a dog.” It took a second or two for me to realise she was telling me off for suggesting we steal someone else’s puppy, she hadn’t cottoned on! I had to explain it was OUR puppy and we were allowed to take him home then it was like Joey from Friends and I had to stop myself from saying, “There it is!” like Chandler when her eyes widened and it finally dawned on her!
I have a huge smile on my face while I’m typing this. Their reaction was priceless, absolutely priceless and I could finally breathe a sigh of relief because the suspense was over. He has fit in perfectly. Winnie has sniffed every orifice, slapped him on the head and fallen asleep next to him on the sofa. No barking, no growling – well a little from him, but he’s so tiny it sounded more like a cat purring – but Winnie seems to have accepted him right off the bat. They even ate breakfast beside each other this morning and neither tried to go for the other one’s. But then you can put your hand in Winnie’s food while she’s eating it and she wouldn’t bat an eye.
So… yay for me! I did it! It was hell, but I did it! And here is the new addition! I think I made the right choice. Until next time, stay safe and keep reading! [Post Image 1]
