Kyle’s world is falling apart. His mate saved his long lost brother at the expense of his life and every hour Jay slips a little further away. He can’t stand to do nothing and simply wait for the end, so he goes after the witch that hurt his mate. If there’s a chance, just the slightest chance he can bring Jay back to him, he’ll take it. No matter what the cost.
Forcing his alpha powers to manifest is dangerous and his jaguar becomes unstable without their mate to ground them. Kyle is losing the ability to tell friend from foe.
Jay speaks to him in his dreams and that small contact lends him the strength to take on Katrianna and all her stolen evil power. He’ll do anything it takes to save Jay, even burn the world to ashes.
I was right; I need more. I need book five of the Pack Valley series right the heck now. The world SA Welsh has created, while not as detailed as some I have come across, is equally engrossing. The magic takes center stage in this installment. Jay has been lost to Kyle and his family. Physically he is there, but he is close to death. It is Kyle’s turn to save Jay.
The part I appreciated most about Shadow of a Mate is we finally got to hear from Kyle for an extended period. Yes, there were moments from Kyle’s point of view in the earlier installments, but they were largely Jay. I enjoyed finally getting to know Kyle. Getting to see his loyalty, affection, and dedication to Jay.
We also saw Kyle come into his own in a way. We know what kind of leader he will be in the future, when he is ready to take that role permanently. We know he has a good team around him and even with the fight for which the shifter world is gearing up, we can have confidence the good guys will come out on top.
I for one am ready for the fight. Book five, please?
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
