The Story of Jax and Dylan by Jamie Dean ~ Book Review by Brandilyn

The-Story-of-Jax-and-Dylan Title: The Story of Jax and Dylan

Author: Jamie Dean

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

Cover Artist: Christy Caughie

Rating: 4.5 of 5 Stars

Dylan and Jax were typical best friends, until Dylan fell for Jax and kissed him the night before senior prom. Dylan had to move away before they could talk about it, so he has spent ten years thinking Jax hated him for that kiss.

Reconnecting on Facebook allows them to meet again, and they quickly become as close as ever, spending most of their free time together. Dylan falls for Jax a second time, even though Jax has a girlfriend and appears to be straight.

Important secrets about Jax may lie hidden in the books he’s written, but Jax has asked Dylan not to read them, and Dylan refuses to break his promise. When the truth finally surfaces, their lives will never be the same.

Brandilyn’s View:

I will be honest, I was not expecting to like this story. Yes, it is a second chance romance and friends to lovers, two of my favorite tropes, but I am getting a bit jaded by new authors and less than quality work. However, I still picked it up. At about the half-way mark, I considered putting it down. I was frustrated.

I thought I would be writing a very different review talking about main characters who just can’t move forward. Characters who just circle the same arguments (with themselves) over and over. Talking about using the cheap plot device of the interruption to prevent any actual emotional interaction between the main characters, repeatedly. Saying something to the effect of “I liked both main characters well enough, but I just couldn’t get into the plot.” Finally, talking about how the lack of surprise in the timeline of events had me bored.

Then something happened. I fell completely and head over heels for Dylan and Jax. Two men so scared of their feelings and potentially messing up a friendship that their caution just might do it for them. Two men that clearly want each other but are oblivious to the feelings of the other. Two men that wouldn’t be able to make things work with anyone but the other.

It took most of the book for our main characters to find each other. However, the way it finally happened is one of my favorite scenes that I have read this year.

The Story of Jax and Dylan by Jamie Dean is a beautiful love story you won’t want to miss. I just implore you to be patient. The payoff is more than worth it.
