Title: Love Cubed
Author: Eddy LeFey
Publisher: Wayward Ink Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, Menage/Poly, New Adult
Three very different young men meet at St-Frederick’s University.
Francis, haunted by his past and seeking a new life.
Andrew, the introverted football jock.
And Sebastian, the charismatic and confident hockey star.
Francis, wary and troubled, didn’t count on meeting anyone he could care for.
Andrew, closeted and lonely, didn’t think anything would matter more than his football career.
And Sebastian, content to float from conquest to conquest, never believed he’d meet someone who could hold his interest.
An encounter with a journalist causes consequences for all three.
Will they be able to take what they need from one another in order to cope?
Love Cubed is 30% off on the WIP website till the end of May. Don’t miss the Mammoth May Sale!
I’d like to take a few minutes to talk about something that weeds through my stories, and specifically Love Cubed. As a gay man, I think it important to emphasize certain social issues. The whole concept of m/m and m/m/m/m lends itself to explore a variety of issues, such as social acceptance, self-awareness and self-acceptance, and tolerance of differences.
Because of the greater world we live in, m/m and m/m/m/ romance needs to tackle these issues to remain at least somewhat realistic. In terms of all-male polyamory, that is even more the case. For some reason, people who can tolerate two men together have difficulty when there is a third man involved. I wanted to explore the positive side of a threesome, where three men could decide to have a loving, committed relationship. It does happen.
However, I didn’t want to stop there. I briefly discuss the issue of HIV, and people’s intolerance of those afflicted. I think it is an issue that needs to be discussed, even in the gay community. People afflicted with HIV can sometimes be ostracized and feared. I wanted to show a world where characters could overcome their fear enough for the issue to not even really matter.
I also wanted to explore the area of homosexuality in sports. This is still an area where the LGBTTQ community is still struggling. It still boggles my mind that, in this era of supposed tolerance, one can still count on one hand the number of out currently active athletes in professional organized major-league team sports. Those brave persons who are out and proud should be commended. Those out athletes who aspire to become professional , yet still decided to show their complete selves should also be commended and cherished. I thought that a romantic version of their story needed to be told.
Finally, I wanted to tackle the idea of abuse. I chose sexual assault and bullying, there are many more forms that can be addressed, and should be. I wondered what it would be like to have partners in life, just past the threshold of adulthood, who would be willing to be patient, loving, and caring enough to help someone through what can be a serious cycle of self-doubt when one has to deal with being a survivor.
I know that I am not the first, and I hope not to be the last to tackle these issues, although it would be nice, perhaps, if we never had to.
About the Author
Eddie LeFey started reading m/m romance fanfiction a few years ago. At one point, during a crucial point in the soap opera storyline of his favorite gay couple, the story went on hiatus. He needed a fix and decided to write his own version of what he wished would happen. Friends wanted to read it, so he plucked up his courage. Pressing the submission button was nerve-wracking, but he did it. People liked it. He wrote a few more.
Up until that point Eddy had tried his hand at writing many times. The delete button was his friend, as was starting over, and over, and over, but he could no longer do that if he wanted people to read his works.
A few of his writing friends decided to create original stories, and feeling brave, Eddy did the same. The stories were shared among a select few. They encouraged him to submit one of them. Low and behold, it is now being published.
Eddy lives in Canada with his husband Ken and his cat Oscar Wild. He is busy writing many more stories.
