Moments In Time Book 3 (Should be read in order)
Spending the summer together on Fire Island brought Collin and Tanner closer than ever, but back in their conservative college town, challenges confront them at every turn.
As they search for their new normal in their old environment, Collin’s brother Sean surprises them with help when they need it most. But when word about their relationship gets out, trouble erupts with friends and family. When Collin’s relationship with Tanner becomes an issue in his brother’s custody battle, and Tanner struggles with his feelings for a heartbroken Wendy, Collin wonders if everyone he cares about would be better off without him in the picture. In order to save them both, Tanner must make it clear to Collin that their love for each other is all that matters.
MOMENTS IN TIME Books 1-3 (available in paperback)
Moment of Impact
Beyond Collin Fitzpatrick’s dorm room, the students of his conservative college think he’s straight, as does his Catholic family who’d disown him if they learned the truth. Inside, he’s safe with his sexy roommate Tanner D’Amico. Tanner wants to show the world how much he loves Collin, but Collin’s not sure he’s ready for the impact stepping outside will make.
Moment of Truth
Collin expected to spend another summer fixing cars and working at the college pizzeria. Instead, he’s living in a beach house on Fire Island, and for the first time, he and Tanner can publicly be known as boyfriends. Being “out” takes some getting used to, and doubt and jealousy threaten their happiness. Collin and Tanner must confront the truth or risk losing it all.

“I just signed two new contracts with Dreamspinner Press. These new titles will be continuations of the Moments In Time series, but will star secondary characters from the series rather than Collin and Tanner. MOMENT OF SILENCE will feature Quinn (Collin’s oldest brother) and Jason (Collin’s Fire Island co-worker who developed a crush on him) and MOMENT OF FATE will be Bryan’s story (Bryan was the musician housemate from Moment Of Truth). I’m very excited about both projects. I also have a m/f New Adult book that will be released from Bloomsbury in late 2015. Lots of books on the horizon!”
Dreamspinner has books 1 and 2 on sale for 99 cents from May 5- May 18 so grab your copies today!
We are her today to talk about Moment of Clarity. What can you tell us about it?
Moment Of Clarity is the third book in the Moments In Time series. Even though all three of these books are complete novellas (no cliffhanger endings) these three books are all about Collin and Tanner—they explore three very different stages in this young couple’s life together. For that reason it’s best to read this series in order so you know what the couple has gone through in book one that propelled them to the situations they encounter in book two and three. Each book has an emotional component, a hardship the characters have to face (coming out in book one, jealousy and being out publicly in book two) but the events of book three were the most taxing to write. In book three Collin and Tanner return to the conservative environment of their college for their senior year. After being out together all summer in the more liberal environment of Fire Island, where they spent their summer, it’s a big adjustment. The prejudice and obstacles they face put their relationship to a major test.
Tell us more about Collin and Tanner?
Collin and Tanner are both sweet and strong and vulnerable, but in very different ways from one another. One of my favorite things about writing this series is that they wind up doing some role reversal as the stories in the three books unfold. I love it when characters grow and evolve and bring out things in them that they didn’t even know existed within themselves. I’d go into more detail but I don’t want to spoil the books!
What about the Moments in Time series makes you the proudest?
I think my proudest moments have been when I’ve gotten emails from readers telling me that the story(stories) resonated with them because it was so much like their own coming out experience or that of someone close to them. I strive to make my characters as real to readers as they are to me, so if someone tells me a story really hit home for them or tells me the characters seemed like people they know (or like them), then I feel like I’ve done what I set out to do.
Also I know someone gave this series to a friend who had recently come out and was feeling very alone. He sent a message to me telling me that he hadn’t realized there were romances about gay couples—all the fictional gay characters he’d encountered in books had met with tragic ends or were sad secondary characters. He said the books gave him hope. That was definitely a very proud moment.
What is next for Collin and Tanner?
Collin and Tanner are happily living their lives, together. They’ll be making minor guest appearances in a few upcoming books but those books focus on other characters. Some of the secondary characters from books 1-3 will be getting their own stories…soon.
What was your inspiration for this story?
I always find this to be the most difficult interview question. I don’t usually base a story on a particular inspiration, or at least not one I’m consciously aware I have. Characters tend to start whispering their story in my ear, usually while I’m writing a story about totally different characters. When they get insistent enough that I have to start listening, I know they need their story told. That’s how this series started. I was working on another project (totally unrelated) and Collin just popped into my head and started talking. His voice was so urgent and panicked, I listened. I’m glad I did because I’ve loved telling his story.
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring writers, what would it be?
FINISH THE BOOK. Seriously. I don’t care how many things you think you want to change in it or how much better you think you can make it, the most important thing is to finish that first draft. Once you have a complete draft you can (and should) edit it and re-edit it as many times as needed until you get it as close to your vision as possible. I can’t tell you how many people I know who spend years and years tweaking this part of the story and that part of the story and never wind up with a complete book. Why? Because they’re so busy changing this and that they get so wrapped up in tweaking things they never manage to finish the damn book. It’s the most common reason I’ve seen for people getting stuck. Your work isn’t done when you finish a draft, but then at least you can say “Hey, I wrote a book—a whole damned book!” That’s the first major milestone.
What are you reading right now and what is next on your to-be-read list?
I don’t have a TBR list. I tend to read things the second I get a hold of them and I also beta read for several authors so I have a steady flow of things coming in that I have to read in a timely fashion. It’s a luxury for me to pleasure read so I tend to be spontaneous about it—I’ll see someone talking about a book on Twitter and I’ll impulse buy it and read it in a day or two. I’m on deadline with two projects right now and getting ready to attend the RT convention (May 12-18 if you happen to be in the Dallas area!) so I’m only reading beta projects right now. The last book I beta read was The Shameless Hour by Sarina Bowen (which is now available). I strongly suggest you try it if you like m/f books. If not, try Understatement of the Year (her m/m story that shares some of the dame characters as The Shameless Hour)—it’s a great NA series.
Rapid Fire Time
- Pastel or neon (bright?)? Jewel tone. I like rich dark colors.
- Thongs or Flip Flops ? Flip flops. Thongs are underwear!
- Swimming or skiing (variation on the beach/mountains)? Swimming. I have no sense of balance. Skiing would result in broken things.
- Handcuffs or Rope? Neither on me. Whatever the other person wants on them. 😉
- Paper or Plastic? Canvas tote or insulated bag.
- Any Tattoos or piercings? Five piercings (3 in one ear, two in the other), one tattoo planned
- Lucky Charms or Trix? Never had either. Honey Nut Cheerios or Frosted Flakes.
- Sweet or Savory? Both. Eating one makes me crave the other and I like them mixed together. Sage crusted pork loin with an apple cider/maple/Dijon glaze is my go-to holiday entrée.
- Comedy or Horror? Comedy.
- Flowers or Candy? Candy. I’m allergic to flowers. Plus, CANDY. Yum.
What are you working on? What is next?
I’m working on a few novels that star secondary characters who’ve been introduced in the first three Moments In Time books (check my blog for more up-to-date info about that), I just released a novel I co-wrote with my critique partner Karen Booth—it’s a m/f NA novel (LONDON CALLING) and I have a m/f NA novel (FOUR DAYS TO FOREVER) releasing from Bloomsbury Publishing in late 2015. A lot of people have asked me why I write both m/f and m/m romance and the answer is simple—I write about people falling in love. Period. Almost all of my m/f romance novels have had very strong gay and lesbian secondary characters (the two mentioned here are excellent examples). Sometimes the couples that fall in love in my head are same sex, sometimes they’re not. Either way I love following them on their journey toward love and writing down all the sexy, heartbreaking, heartwarming, wonderful things they experience along the way.
