  1. Memorial Day means remembering and honoring those people who have died in past wars. It also means a holiday to spend with my family enjoying the May weather.

  2. It’s always a time for me to reflect on those who have served our country in all conflicts, whether recent or hundreds of years ago. Some years it’s also a good excuse for a cookout. 🙂

  3. Memorial Day means honoring those who lost their lives serving their country. On a different level, it’s the unofficial start to summer and a day to spend with family/friends at barbeques.

  4. I’m not from the USA. But in the Netherlands we have our own remebrance day and that is may 4th (doden herdenking) on that day we remember the people who died during the second World War including the soldiers from USA, England and Canada who came to fight for our freedom. Nowadays we remeber all soldiers and people who died during war time.
On may 5th we celebrate our freedom (Bevrijdingsdag).

On may 4th we have a silence of two minutes at 08.00 pm.

i feel very strongly about honoring the people who died to give us our freedom so i always pay my respect and be silence at 8 pm on may 4th.

  5. As I am British, I only know it as a holiday in the US for remembering all who have died whilst serving in the US forces.
We have Remembrance Day in November for the same thing.
But I think those who have lost someone always remember, every day

  6. Memorial Day is for me to remember those family and friends that were lost in various wars and conflicts around the globe. I also take the time to go decorate the grave of my grandfather who served in WWII when I’m in town. I love to spend time with my family that day was well.

  7. Memorial Day is a way to remember & honor those who lost their lives in defense of our country. Politics aside, those men & women should be always be remembered.

  8. In the UK our day of remembrance (Memorial Day) is Remembrance Day, and to me its one day the country sets aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. During those few moments of silence, we come together to show support and gratitude to all who served and those that are currently enlisted, with a red poppy as a symbol of solidarity.

  9. Memorial Day, to me, is a day to remember those that have sacrificed for this country and our freedom. Yes, many people celebrate and cookout, but I think that displays our freedom. We are a lucky society to be able to live the way we do and that is what it means to me.
