New York City’s streets are more dangerous than ever with the leaderless Order of Adrasteia and the Ikelos Coalition, a newly emerged Therian group, at war. Innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire and although the THIRDS round up more and more members of the Order in the hopes of keeping the volatile group from reorganizing, the members of the Coalition continue to escape and wreak havoc in the name of vigilante justice.

Worse yet, someone inside the THIRDS has been feeding the Coalition information. It’s up to Destructive Delta to draw out the mole and put an end to the war before anyone else gets hurt. But to get the job done, the team will have to work through the aftereffects of the Therian Youth Center bombing. A skirmish with Coalition members leads Agent Dexter J. Daley to a shocking discovery and suddenly it becomes clear that the random violence isn’t so random. There’s more going on than Dex and Sloane originally believed, and their fiery partnership is put to the test. As the case takes an explosive turn, Dex and Sloane are in danger of losing more than their relationship.

Story Review:

The sign of a good series for me is when each new book released is as strong as the previous one and the story keeps you enthralled. If at the end of a book you are pulling your nails out in desperation for the next one then the author has done a good job! At the end of Rack & Ruin you will have no nails left!

I will stick by my original review for this one when I said it was full of feels. There is still a lot of intense action as the team fights to keep control over the rogue elements, there is still a boat load of quirky one liners between the team as they continue to bond and look out for each other but there is a much stronger look into the dynamics of their personal relationships too.

Sloane has finally got to a place where he can say goodbye to a part of his past that was holding him back from Dex thus allowing them to move on. When Sloane purred…..well it took some of that cold exterior away in my eyes. Dex is just Dex. How can anyone not fall in love with the man? He has already placed his heart in Sloane’s hand even if he spends his time joking about to cover up his sensitive side and how deeply he has already fallen in love.

The thing I most enjoy about the Thirds series is that although Charlie gave us a Dex and Sloane, two really strong lead characters, she also gave us the rest of the team. They are all characters within their own rights with their own stories to tell and not just one dimensional side acts. There are some interesting times to come I’m sure and I am looking forward to learning more about the other members of Destructive Delta.

Narration Review:

If the books keep getting better then so does the narration. Mark Westfield is absolutely perfect for this series and brings so much to the characters with the voice he provides.
