Blurb:

Newly promoted police captain Evan Cerelli takes command of his own precinct as Matt Haight’s security business begins to expand at a rapid rate. Both of their careers require more and more of their time—away from home and each other. When his most famous clients, Daisy and Bennett Ames, suffer a traumatic breakup, Matt is drawn into a dangerous and dramatic situation. With attentions diverted, Evan and Matt’s tight-knit home life begins to unravel.

As Griffin Drake’s movie nears final edit, his thoughts turn toward building a home with his new fiancé, Jim Shea—and maybe even starting a family. Before he can think of a new family, Jim is caught up in his past. The possibility of putting Tripp Ingersoll in jail once and for all beckons, and Jim wants the closure that has long eluded him. As a new lead spurs him on, Jim begins to lose sight of the future by chasing an old ghost.

Both couples struggle to remember that “happily ever after” requires hard work, trust, and tender, open hearts.

Interview:

1.  We are here today to talk about Truth & Tenderness.  What can you tell us about it?

Well, it’s the final book in the Faith, Love & Devotion series. Book six to be exact! We find Evan and Matt, and Griffin and Jim settling down into the lives they have always dreamed of – but there are complications as all four of them forget that even the greatest of love stories need care and attention to stay on track. It was wonderful to write the two couples together, and their stories intertwining, showcasing their friendships. Plus, of course, the entire cast of supporting characters is back! I couldn’t let the series finish without revisiting the people who have become so important in this universe.

2.  Tell us more about Evan, Matt, Griffin, & Jim?

In this book, they’re all a little selfish. They stop paying attention to their duties to each other, and drift, each chasing something they think they need. In the end though, what they each need is to pay attention to what’s most important – and that’s the people they love. All four of them need to take the lessons they’ve learned and the stuff they’ve realized, and put it to work in their real lives. I think that’s the bottom line of this story – it’s fine to have a realization. It’s another thing entirely to put your knowledge into action! It’s the last step. Okay, you know what you have to do. Now get up and do it, even if it’s hard or scary or dangerous.

3. What about the entire Faith, Love, & Devotion series makes you the most proud?

That despite all the bumps, it’s something that people genuinely enjoy. The fact that it’s worth a reread to people, it’s worth it for them to go through the sad and hard parts. At the end of the day, my job is – and will always be – to write a satisfying story. That readers have found satisfaction and enjoyment in the pages, that makes me proud.

4. If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring writers, what would it be?

Write YOUR story. In YOUR voice. Don’t think about trends or blazing new paths – just write a great story in your unique voice and pour all your emotions into it. That’s what will attract readers to you. As for the professional side of things – treat people kindly and stay out of drama!

5. What is the nicest thing a reader has said to you in a review, email, in person, or on social media?

Oh gosh, that’s a tough one. I’ve had some really remarkable experiences with fans over these past six years! There are two off the top of my head. One is the mother of a young gay son came up to me at a book signing and thanked me for contributing to the idea that everyone deserves happy endings. She made me cry (and we are now good friends!). The other is man who wrote to me after “Duty & Devotion” came out the first time. He sent me a long and emotional letter about his own experiences as a gay man, and his long road to accepting himself. Evan’s inner conflict resonated with him, and he wanted to share with me his own journey, and what led to his current happy relationship. It was a powerful and humbling moment for me. I mean – I empathize and explore and hope I get it right. But to know you spoke to someone’s real life? It’s intense and rewarding and again, humbling.

6. Are Evan & Matt and Griffin & Jim done with their stories?

In terms of full length books and novellas – yes. I wanted to complete their circles and that is what “Truth & Tenderness” is all about. As far as “looks” into their universe over time? I’ll probably do that. They’ll be available on my website (www.teremichaels.com), like the one I did for Christmas last year. That was a future fic, as Matt and Evan prepare to walk one of the girls down the aisle! I mean – I first created Matt and Evan and Jim fourteen years ago! They’ve been with me a long time, and I don’t think I’ll be rid of them that easily.

7. What are you reading right now and what is next on your to-be-read list?

I’m reading “The Book of Life” by Deborah Harkness, which is part of her “All Souls” series. Next up – the two most recent books in J.R. Ward’s Brotherhood series!

8. Rapid Fire Time

  • Hats or Fascinators? Hats
  • Tennant or Smith? Not a Dr. Who fan but Tennant
  • 100 years in the past or 100 years in the future? The future. The past features no Diet Coke and subpar toilet paper
  • Morning or Night? Night
  • Batman or Superman? Batman baby – dark and brooding ftw.
  • Vanilla or Chocolate? Vanilla
  • Chinese food or Mexican food? Chinese
  • Cut or uncut? Cut
  • Twinks or bears? Otters!
  • Hamburger or Hotdog? Hamburger

9. What are you working on?  What is next?

“Groomzilla” is a fun romantic novella coming out in August. After that, the second and third books in the Vigilante series will be out in the fall.

  1. Enjoyed the interview. 🙂 I’ve already downloaded my copy of Truth & Tenderness. Thanks for writing such a great series. 🙂

  2. I’ve just started this and am so glad to read Riley and Sonnie’s story. After reading the first couple of books, I feel like I’m visiting with friends. I love book series that center on the same friends and families.

    • Sorry, I accidently saved the above comment on the wrong page. I haven’t gotten to start this series yet, but am interested in reading them all.
