A year after the body swap that let brat Jayk and his dom, Amon, experience each other’s lives for a day, the pair is ready to be married in a small, stress-free ceremony. Things are going smoothly until they meet Jennifer and Ron Gaines-Brake—a quarrelsome couple with a laundry list of troubles whose wedding is at the same venue.
When Jayk and Amon are drawn into the other couple’s drama, their own doubts and fears about marriage start to surface. And when they accidentally switch bodies with Jennifer and Ron the day before the wedding, their simple, stress-free celebration starts looking more and more like a nightmare.
As the couples attempt to deal with each other’s families, secrets, and last minute wedding preparations, things spiral out of control. Add to the mix a missing cat, a vigilant police officer, an intimidating dildo, and a cake like no other, and it’s anybody’s guess whether the weekend will end in bells or bedlam.
The opening to this book is entertaining, sweet, and I laughed several times within the first twenty pages.
And then… all hell broke loose and I didn’t know if I could handle it and –
Kidding. I kid! This story remains fun, lighthearted, and humorous, with Rock’s savant-like ability to get right to the heart and guts of humanity. I’d be giggling and then find myself gasping, swallowing the laugh, letting the feelings sink in.
What isn’t at all a joke is how the relationship between Jayk and Amon is portrayed. They’re deeply in love, imperfect in their continuing education about each other, and talk to each other (sometimes eventually eyes Jayk) when upset or unsure.
Beautifully done is the BDSM element of their relationship. It’s not something they do, it’s who they are. They each have their limits and respect them. This isn’t an “excuse” to include BDSM in a story, it’s simply a part of this life Jayk and Amon are sharing, with DD included, because it’s who they are.
This is Amon, thinking back on the earlier times in their relationship…
There were spankings that didn’t work, that ended with Jayk still guilty, still anxious, or else resentful and defiant. It was hard, at first, for me to get used to the idea that I wouldn’t always get it right. That DD wasn’t some cure-all for any friction between us.
In other words, he and Jayk don’t discipline or submit for something to do, it’s all a part of what works for them, what helps them navigate their feelings, what makes them happy.
Oh, and this is steamy sexy hot. The things Jayk and Amon do to each other, the ways they elicit reactions… delicious. And sweet. And wonderfully kinky. “It’s so Jay-Mon” needs to be a thing. I think just made it so.
”You remember feeling that switch across your ass?”
I crooked my finger. He moaned.
“Remember when you begged me to do it harder?”
There are some passages that felt overly long in that they slowed down the pace of the read. I didn’t mind them so much but I felt like I wanted to rush through them to find out what was going to happen next.
You’re in for another J.A. Rock treat with this one, folks. Amidst the hotness, humor, and almost madcap type antics, there are some interesting queries posed about gender, magic, what’s real and what’s not. What it means to love someone and live your life with them. That Rock is one tricky trickster with her clever storytelling!
As far as Jayk’s concerned, it comes down to this, about Amon …
He was better than my parents or sitters or friends had ever been about taking a step back and figuring out why I was acting a certain way. Which was helpful to me, since sometimes I didn’t know myself.
Don’t be afraid to fully love someone because you think it might make you look foolish. This is Jayk’s “solution” to any challenges he may embody that Amon needs to handle.
Love like crazy.
Highly recommend, this book, I do, highly recommend.
