Buckle up – Matty’s back!
Figure skater Matty Marcus didn’t capture Olympic gold, but he won rancher Rob Lovely’s heart.
After Rob sold his ranch and Matty hung up his skates, they started a new life together in New York City. Now Matty has taken on a fresh challenge as a figure skating coach, and Rob’s second career as a physical therapist should be everything he’s dreamed of. But in the brutal heat of their third summer in the city, Rob yearns for the wide-open country, and the intensity of city life awakens Matty’s demons.
Matty asks for increasingly intense BDSM scenes, and his disordered eating and erratic behavior ramp up the stakes. Rob struggles to stay in control, and after a well-intentioned anniversary gift goes awry, he still thinks he can handle the fallout. But the concrete jungle is closing in and his coping skills are unraveling.
Their love is deep, but Rob will have to admit the truth about what he really wants before they both tumble into chaos.
When I first read Training Season back in February 2014 it went straight onto the list of my all time favourites. I loved the story, I loved the writing and I loved both the characters. I think like a lot of fellow readers I believed that although at the end of that book we didn’t see Matty and Rob perfection we did see their happy ending so when I saw Training Complex coming out I was both elated and terrified. Surely Leta Blake wasn’t going to mess with one of my favourite couples of all time and take away their happy?
Whew, well whilst she did mess with both the boys, a lot, she didn’t take away their happy. She did bring them to their knees, and me to mine, whilst making them work things out. This story is BIG, it’s filled with angst and desperation and it shows us that no one is infallible, even the person that is supposed to be in charge.
The D/s side of their relationship is so very important to both men but it is also the thing that is slowly crippling them. Matty wants and needs more until more is not enough. He is oblivious to the effect this has on Rob until they are both flailing and calling out Cowbell. Rob’s true strength lies in his admission that he can’t cope, that it’s too much and that he needs help because the alternative is to lose Matty and that is never an option.
Matty is controlled literally by the voices in his head and those voices are once again proving destructive. He has become selfish, missing out on what Rob is feeling and the way he is hurting, but his fear is so deep seated that he is spiralling out of control. This story has angst, lots and lots of angst!
There is also a lot of fun which is mainly supplied by Elliot and if ever a boy deserved a story this one does….cough and hint.
If you loved the first book you will love this one too…providing your heart can make it through to the end!
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
