As a young gay man—and a werepanther—all Jin Rayne yearns for is a normal life. Having fled his past, he wants nothing more than to start over, but Jin’s old life doesn’t want to let him go. When his travels bring him to a new city, he crosses paths with the leader of the local were-tribe.
Logan Church is a shock and an enigma, and Jin fears that Logan is both the mate he fears and the love of his life. Jin doesn’t want to go back to the old ways, and mating would irrevocably tie him to them. But Jin is the mate Logan needs at his side to help him lead his tribe, and he won’t give Jin up so easily. It will take time and trust for Jin to discover the joy in belonging to Logan and how to love without restraint.
The first book in the Change of Heart series and it drops you straight into the relentless action that makes this series one of my all-time favourites. This is Mary Calmes at her best and a series that I have read, read and read again.
Jin is this little guy who has had a crap life and the only person he trusts is his best friend Crane. A male reah, something that has never been heard of before, and gay to boot left him viciously thrown out of his tribe and left for dead. In werepanther form he is huge, stronger and faster than anyone has ever seen. His heart is huge, he really cares for those around him, but he keeps that big heart hidden away as it has been so badly damaged in the past. With Crane by his side he moves from city to city avoiding both his fate and further heartbreak.
Logan is the leader of his tribe, a semel, a compassionate and fair leader who is well respected. The minute he sets eyes on Jin he knows he has found his mate, elevating him to a semel-re but Jin is skittish and has spent his life avoiding just this situation. Yes its instalove, yes it’s crazy and yes it is all consuming for both men but with Jin’s fear for his heart it’s not easy and nor does it run smoothly.
Logan and Jin together are hot, hot and then hot again! If Logan can just persuade Jin to stay with him everything will be perfect. The world building is intense in this first book and there are a lot of uncommon terms/names to get to grips with but the story runs so smoothly that they are easy to pick up and understand. It really does a great job of laying the foundations for the rest of the series.
