As it often does, the bad news comes in the middle of the night.

When attorney Ben Winters’s close friend takes a bad spill and ends up in the hospital, he flies across the country to be there for her. His instant attraction to her brother takes him by surprise. Wanting Zack Anderson is easy; actually having him is a bad idea. While the two connect over concern for Zack’s sister, there are many reasons to fight the attraction brewing between them. Things heat up as Ben’s friend begins to show improvement, but the reasons not to get involved with the younger man remain the same—long distance relationships never work, and Ben doesn’t do one-night stands. But there’s one powerful reason to give in: Ben has never wanted anyone more.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Daily Dose package “Never Too Late.”

My View:

When Ben Winter’s email pings in the middle of the night to inform him a close friend, someone he has only ever talked to online, has had an accident he can’t settle. In the end the worry becomes too much and he phones Josie’s brother to see what is happening. The news isn’t good; Josie fell down some steps, banged her head and hasn’t woken up.

Ben finds himself on the next plane out. It’s a weird situation. Ben and Josie met online a couple of years ago, they email daily and often skype for hours but they have never physically met. Josie’s younger brother Zack is a complete stranger to Ben, he has seen him once on a skype call, but on the phone he sounded lost and broken and something tugged at Ben’s heart strings.

Thankfully after a couple of stressful days it looks like Josie is going to be fine but by this time Ben is in a pickle. The broken man on the phone is not the Zack in front of him now, this Zack is confident, alluring and dominant and he has made it clear he wants Ben anyway he can get him.

Age gaps have never bothered me but often authors seem to need to make the elder person in the relationship the one who takes over or does all the work. I really liked the dynamic between Zack and Ben. Not only was Zack the dominant partner but it was what Ben wanted and needed and it meant when they got together it was hot as hell.

The problem with a holiday fling is that it usually comes to an end. Ben and Zack have fallen fast and hard but with thousands of miles between them what comes next?
