Detective Cristian Flesh is about to find out that he can only run from his past for so long.
When a local man is attacked and the suspect is a hustler, Cristian knows there’s more to the case than meets the eye. His investigation will lead him into a maze of lies, deceit, and underage prostitution. But that’s only the beginning as people start disappearing and turning up dead. Cristian begins to realize that solving the case and stopping the murders won’t be enough. If he wants to make his new life with lawyer Colby Maddox work, he’ll need to face the demons of his past and put them to rest once and for all.
Flesh & Blood is the sequel to In the Flesh, one of my first favorite mysteries in the M/M genre. While the main mystery in Flesh & Blood isn’t quite as strong as it was in In the Flesh, there is a lot more personal growth on Flesh’s part, and you get a bonus mini-mystery in the process.
In Flesh & Blood, we finally get to know who Cristian Flesh is and what makes him the man he is today. We get to know who broke him and how. Most importantly, we get to see him get some justice and closure he never thought he needed or would have.
Flesh & Blood deals with some pretty heady topics including underage prostitution, abuse, and pedophilia, but does so with respect for the victims. These are not fetish topics. They are the reason Flesh is so intent on the case.
We also get to see more of Gabe and, of course, Colby. We get to see Cris and Colby’s relationship take itself up a couple of levels. We also get some pretty damn hot, dirty, and rough scenes between the two of them in bed (on the couch, on the floor, etc.).
For the first time, we get to see Cristian Flesh vulnerable. Most of his “rules” have been broken, and the few that remain will be obliterated in short order. In the end, however, he comes out stronger.
Now I just need the next book, Mr. Stone. I am resisting re-reading my first edition because Blood and Tears (Flesh #3) has been completely re-worked, and I am looking forward to it.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
