Kithric, an aging dragon tamer, leads a solitary life atop his mountain, until the day he accidentally traps a dragon that is more than he seems. Expecting to be killed for capturing a dragon shifter, Kithric instead finds himself spared and left to deal with his continued solitude.
He finds he can’t be rid of Ylfrin the dragon shifter that easily, though, and as Ylfrin continues to return, bit by bit Kithric begins to fall for him and starts to value using what life he has left to the fullest. But before he and Ylfrin can explore their feelings, they must first confront dangers and corrupt forces encroaching from outside Kithric’s Mountain.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Daily Dose package “Never Too Late.”
This story was the perfect embodiment of the “Never Too Late” concept. It captured that sentiment well and left me rather emotional, which was not something I expected at all. I was a bit confused for a good portion of this story as I did not really understand Ylfrin at all. Kithric was as well fleshed out as could be for a short story, but I only got snippets of Ylfrin. But at the end, when the author revealed more about Ylfrin, I found that everything came together. My confusion left and I actually had to stop myself from tearing up at the way the author brought these men together. Bravo for such a unique story that fit this collection perfectly.
I think I need to investigate this authors other works.
