When winged paranormal Dante is injured in a demon attack, he faces certain death unless he can reach a healing spring just off the Pacific coast. With his strength waning and the demon poison infesting his system, the spring is his only hope. He never expects to find salvation in the arms of the property’s caretaker, a much younger man. Bren is fascinated by the beautiful winged man who arrives at his family’s sanctuary. He’s determined to save Dante’s life, but he’ll have to find a way to help Dante heal without infecting himself with the demonic poison, and time is running out.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Daily Dose package “Never Too Late.”
This story was fun. It was full of fantasy and paranormal creatures. It had healing streams, fated mates, and a sarcastic, once human cat cursed to remain in feline form until he finds his true love. This was very much a fated mates story and it was a good thing because this story was short and already had a rushed feel to it. Had the author tried for anything other than instant mating, the rushed feel would have been worse.
There was no sex on page and I think that was the right choice for this story. There was already so much happening, that to take time for on page sex would have just taken away from the little world building the author was able to include. I liked this story and though it was a good start to something. I would read more about Dante and Bren and I sure as hell hope Pixel will get his own story as well.
My biggest issue was that the blurb was totally misleading and partially false. It made this story seem to be more tense and involved than it actually was. There was no Bren “finding a way to heal” as Dante and the stream did it all. And that was really only a very very very small portion of the story and was by far not even close to being the focus at all. Based on the blurb I expected a much different story that I got. While I enjoyed what was written, it did not match the presented storyline.
