Title: Prickly Business
Author: Piper Vaughn & Kenzie Cade
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Cover Artist: Reese Dante
Genre: Contemporary, Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, Paranormal
Some people might call Avery Babineaux a prick. He’s a hedgehog shifter from an old-money Louisiana family with a penchant for expensive shoes and a reputation for being a judgmental snob. His attitude is why he and his fated mate are estranged. Not that Avery cares. He doesn’t want to be mated to some blue-collar werewolf anyway. Or so he keeps telling himself.
No werewolf likes to be looked down upon, least of all Dylan Green. He doesn’t need a mate, especially not some snotty hedgehog who sneers at his custom motorcycle shop and calls him a grease monkey. But when Avery gets into trouble with a shady loan shark, Dylan can’t stand by and let him be hurt—whether he wants the brat or not.
Yet once Dylan steps into Avery’s world, he realizes there’s more to Avery than his prickly exterior, and that unexpected vulnerability calls to Dylan’s protective instincts. The sassy little hedgehog needs a keeper, and despite their horrible first impressions, Dylan starts to believe he might be the wolf for the job.

Hey, all. Kenzie and Piper here. Thanks to Prism Book Alliance for hosting us today!
Piper: So, when we started planning Prickly Business, we both felt the need for a playlist. We’re both big music fans and we like to write to music, so it seemed like a good idea to set the mood and overall tone of the story with some of our favorite songs. We both suggested songs for the list, and I think we ended up agreeing to every song the other suggested, so it got kind of long. I know I’ll never be able to hear any of these without thinking of Dylan and Avery, so we thought we’d share some of our playlist with you guys. You’re welcome for any of the earworms. 😉
Kenzie: Luckily, Piper and I have a lot of the same tastes in music and we discovered some new music as well. One of my faves on this list is Maroon 5’s “It Was Always You.” That song came to us while working on edits. And it’s kind of perfect–the hazel eye and meant to be sort of theme. The thing is with these guys. It was so easy to find music for them because they’re so passionate in both fighting against their mating then in fighting for one another. We had a ton to work with.
Piper: I think the very first song that we added to the list was “Habits” by Tove Lo. For us, this song kind of epitomizes Avery. He’s always been a bit of a wild child to begin with, but after he’s rejected by Dylan (this isn’t a spoiler; from the blurb we go in knowing they’re estranged), he gets even wilder. See, as much as he tells himself he doesn’t want or need a mate, especially one like Dylan, the reality is that Avery is one of the few hedgehog shifters who actually wants to find his mate. Most of them don’t put much stock into the idea of destined pairings. Avery and Dylan get off on the wrong foot for several reasons, and for us, the mood and even lyrics of this song really encapsulates how Avery is feeling about the entire thing at the start of the story–even if he won’t necessarily admit it to himself.
Kenzie: One we both agreed on, at about the same time, was “Drumming Song” by Florence + The Machine. It encompasses the feeling of Dylan and Avery whenever they are in the same room. The push-pull vibe of the song mimics the fighting both Dylan and Avery war within themselves and with each other. And it’s where this story begins. Exactly. That tension and tug of war. It’s delicious and exciting.
Piper: “Latch” (acoustic) by Sam Smith was one Kenzie suggested for the playlist. For me, it’s one of the more romantic songs on the playlist. A bunch of them are kind of fun and sexy. The acoustic version of this is pretty and I think for both of us, it goes perfectly for both Dylan and Avery’s feelings once they start to get past a few of their hurdles and growing closer. I think it pretty much speaks for itself, and I know this probably won’t be the last playlist I personally include this song on. 🙂
Kenzie: Our playlist is full of songs that, honestly, if we listed them all and gave all the reasons we love them for these guys, we’d be here all day. So we decided to put the list together so you can enjoy all of the songs we love and all of the ones that will forever remind us of Dylan and Avery.
Thanks for stopping by today! We hope we maybe introduced you to a new song or two. For the fellow music fans out there, try listening to the playlist while reading the book. I’m pretty sure some of these songs affected the tone of certain scenes. It’d be interesting to see which songs you might associate with which scenes.
See you at the next stop!

About the Author
Piper Vaughn Bio
Piper Vaughn wrote her first love story at eleven and never looked back. Since then, she’s known that writing in some form was exactly what she wanted to do. A reader at the core, Piper loves nothing more than getting lost in a great book—fantasy, young adult, romance, she loves them all (and has a two thousand book library to prove it!). She grew up in Chicago, in an ethnically diverse neighborhood, and loves to put faces and characters of every ethnicity in her stories, so her fictional worlds are as colorful as the real one. Above all, she believes that everyone needs a little true love in their life…even if it’s only in a book.
Kenzie Cade Bio
Kenzie Cade was born and raised in the South where she spends her days in the sometimes stressful field of private medicine observing interesting people and committing them to memory for later use. When she isn’t reading, experimenting with recipes, or being distracted by social media, Kenzie spends time with her family, friends, and the Pomeranian/Long-haired Chihuahua mix who likes to keep her company while she writes. As a young girl, Kenzie dreamed of princesses and their white knights. As an adult (or sort of adult), she dreams of princes and their proverbial white knights, which she attributes the fellow Arkansan S.E. Hinton and her novel The Outsiders. Writing to keep the fictional voices at bay, Kenzie enjoys the journeys her characters travel to find their happy endings, and she loves the challenge of writing a great love story.
