Cory fled the foothills to deal with the pain of losing Adrian, and Green watched her go. Separately, they could easily grieve themselves to death, but when an old enemy of Green’s brings them back together, they can no longer hide from their grief—or their love for each other.
But Cory’s grieving has cut her off from the emotional stability that’s the source of her power, and Green’s worry for her has left them both weak. Cory’s strength comes from love, and she finds that when she’s in the presence of Adrian’s best friend, Bracken, she feels stronger still.
But defeating their enemy is by no means a sure thing. As the attacks against Cory and her lovers keep coming, it becomes clear that their love might not be enough if they can’t heal each other—and themselves—from the wounds that almost killed them all.
Wounded Vol 1 left me sad, yet hopeful; hopeful that Cory could heal from her wounds that occurred, not only in this book, but in Vulnerable as well. This definitely is Vol 1, so be prepared for many threads to be left dangling at the end, with many questions yet to be answered.
I really enjoyed seeing the full cast of characters in this book. All had roles to play and were integral and interesting. Officer Max grew and became important, Renny was fierce and loyal, and Grace personified her name. Nicky was new and interesting. I didn’t get as much of a feel for him as I would like, but I’m sure that will change in future books. Bracken was strong and compassionate and I loved him. I ached for him! Green, lord of them all, was perfect. Then there was Cory; the heart of the story and the series. She is so hurt at this point and just trying her best to survive. I hurt with her. I couldn’t imagine going through what she must endure.
This whole series has been light on the sex details, yet sex is an important part of their life. Green heals with sex and love, Cory derives strength and power from sex and desire. It is written in a very smooth and loving way, not at all gratuitous.
There is much darkness in this book, but there are rays of light as well. I look forward to furthering this series.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
