Seiran Rou did the unthinkable to save his own life—he killed someone with magic. Now he’s haunted by the deed, and his internal troubles are ripping apart his newly strengthened relationship with Gabe. And the Dominion still wants him to toe the line and produce an heir.
After receiving threatening e-mails, phone calls, and vandalism that all seem to stem from another dead man from Sei’s tormented youth, Matthew Pierson, Sei thinks he’s going crazy and realizes he needs help. He turns to a Dominion-recommended psychiatrist.
But the past has already dug its claws in deep and someone is helping Sei’s old abuser lead him into a trap. Sei knows Gabe will come for him, and he’s ready to accept his love now. Only he doesn’t know if either of them will survive long enough to find a future together.
Revised Second Edition
This is my third time through Reclamation.
Reclamation, like Inheritance, has been heavily re-edited for it’s second release. As with book one, the story has been scrubbed with some plot additions and clarifications. If you have read Inheritance in either form, Resistance is a necessary and satisfactory follow-up.
As usual, I don’t want to give away too much of the plot. Let’s just say we get to see the aftereffects of the Brock’s attack and the related events at the end of Inheritance. There are people who think Sei is a hero and those who think he shouldn’t be allowed to live. In with all that conflict, Sei is also dealing with the personal consequences of his attack and the choices he had to make to survive.
We get to see Sei pull himself together with the help of his friends and family of choice. But before he can pull himself up, he has a little further to fall. It is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. We get to see the love between Gabe and Sei grow and strengthen at the same time we learn more about how their coupling started. Kasey also advances the overarching Dominion and Ascendance storylines, and we build the minor characters and storylines more. In particular we find out more about Kelly, Jamie, and Sei’s mother.
Reclamation sets us up nicely for the rest of the series and moves us along in the world of the Dominion and Ascendance. The next story focuses on Jamie and Kelly. I am looking forward to it.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
