Zach has stayed away from his mate for years because he had to, but only in the last few months against his will. He had to help his sister, but he knows he hasn’t done it the right way. Still, he has no way to get away from Stan, his sister’s mate, or at least that’s what he thinks.
Kameron, just like almost every other member of the pack, has known something was wrong with Zach for months, but as the Alpha, he didn’t have the possibility to do much about it while he had other and more pressing emergencies on his hands. Now that everything seems to be fine finally or as close to it as it can be, he finally looks for Zach, and what he finds nearly crushes him.
Even after Kameron rescues Zach and his sister from months of abuse, old and new problems rise on the horizon, problems that will put a on strain their budding relationship. Will it be strong enough to resist even Kameron’s bad faith, or will the newly formed couple crumble under the pressure?
And the literary crack strikes again. At least Ms. Lievens didn’t make we wait until book ten this time for a story I have wanted since sometime in the middle of the Whitedell Pride series.
Zach is one of the younger members of the Gillham Pack, the sister pack to the Whitedell Pride for all intents and purposes. We first met him when the Pride helped oust the former pack alpha from power. In this installment, not only do Zach and his mate, the current alpha, finally manage to get their HEA, we move two storylines forward — rebuilding of the Gillham pack and the lab storyline that was first originated in Whitedell.
Following the years of fear and tyranny under the former Alpha and his team, Kameron is finally at the helm in Gillham. However, some of the former inner circle is still around and making life hell for a few of the members of the pack. One of those members is Zach, who happens to also be the subject of Kameron’s affections.
There is no question that these two will get their HEA, but they both have to work for it. They have to overcome past hurts and very present fears. They have to learn to trust each other and their bond, even though their bond may not be what they think it should be. If you want Zach to have an easy life and a clear path to his mate, you will be disappointed. However, The bond between Kameron and Zach ends up all that much stronger for it.
We were introduced to many new characters (and shifter species). There is still much work to do and love to be had in the Gillham pack. I am interested in what is next.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
