Julian “Quinn” Quinetro, a gruff, tough Miami SWAT officer, has been injured on the job, and all he’s looking for is a little peace and quiet to recover—difficult to achieve with his large Cuban family. An adventure in picking up his prescriptions puts him in the path of his geeky, brownie-baking neighbor, Spencer Morgan. Spencer sweeps into Quinn’s life like a tropical storm of sunshine and rainbows. Not surprisingly, it’s chaos at first sight. Quinn’s in need of a little tender loving care, and Spencer decides he’s just the man for the job. Their very different lives might clash, but they might also find some common ground—and maybe more.
Charlie Cochet is a goto comfort read author for me. Much like Eli Easton, Jay Northcote, and Mary Calmes, I know I will get characters I love and the happily ever after they deserve. I know they will have to work for their HEA, but that work will not generally break my heart.
Cochet’s latest novella, Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts, fits this formula perfectly. It is a quick read with a lovable twink paired with an alpha male who is gruff but completely besotted with his twink. You know they are good for each other. You know that in the end you want them to be together. Add in a large meddling Cuban family and some supportive (and one not-so-supportive) co-workers and you have a recipe for an hour or so well spent.
Quinn is grumpy after a bullet takes him out of action for a few weeks. When his lovable geekish neighbor takes it upon himself to provide some much-needed comfort (in the way of food, people!) an attraction quickly grows. We don’t see every second of their lives together on the page, but we are given enough to feel their love when they are together and feel Spencer’s heart break when things don’t go quite as planned.
Quinn is one of those alpha males you can’t help but love. He is a gruff Alpha with a squishy place in his heart for his family and his Spencer.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
