Former Marine and full time big brother, Bull Connor spends his days helping those in need of a second chance and his nights fighting the inner demons that won’t let go. During a routine tow he comes face to face with the only person who refuses to need him and the one man he wishes would.
As a throw away, Ian Jones is used to being alternately overlooked or ridiculed but hasn’t given up on the idea that with just one chance he could turn it all around. Rescued by the one person who neither overlooks nor ridicules him, he longs to be seen as more than just a man in need.
Ian isn’t pining for the family he’s never known but when they descend, unwanted and uninvited, Bull must prove that he’s the man who will protect Ian’s long neglected heart by sharing the demons that torment his wounded soul.
I have For a Reason by Jessie G book tagged as BDSM, but like Past Hurts, it is really BDSM light. There is a strong D/s dynamic between the main characters, but no bondage or S&M involved. I am not a huge reader of BDSM, but I found the dynamic to be interesting and necessary for these two characters.
If you love your dominate alpha males paired with submissive twinks with a backbone, For a Reason is a great choice for you. Technically you could read Reason as a stand alone, as the characters from Past Hurts only make a few cameo appearances. Ian and Bull’s story stands alone. However, you will have a richer experience if you read Hurts first.
Ian has had one hell of a life. The fact that he is still standing, much less still trying to better himself and his life, is a testament to his strength of character. He is not a doormat. He is not a character you can run roughshod over. He stands up for himself at every turn, even in the face of a fairly dominant alpha-male like Bull. Bull, for his part, likes to watch his little twink fly. I love that he knows when to step in and when to let Ian handle things.
All too often when I read D/s stories, I am concerned for the sub. The power dynamic is off just enough to make me uncomfortable. However, Ian is such a strong character; you just have to love him and love Bull for him. I loved getting to know these two and look forward to their wedding in book four of the series, Their Reasons.
