Wyatt’s first album launched him into country music stardom, a shocking success of gay-country. But now he has to record his second album, and all efforts are coming up blank. His manager finally runs out of patience and sends him inspiration: Bryce, who played keys on Wyatt’s tour, and the man that Wyatt is secretly in love with.
Bryce has been in love with Wyatt for a long time, but everyone knows he’s a notorious player, there and gone again as soon as he’s gotten what he wants. Then Wyatt unexpectedly admits his feelings, and Bryce thinks maybe he’s been wrong this whole time. But when he wakes up the next morning, Wyatt is gone…
Notch in Your Belt is a fairly straight-forward friends-to-lovers story, with a bit of a gay-for-you twist. Wyatt and Bryce are secretly in love with each other. The only problem? Bryce is straight.
It is a setup that has been used so many times, but I still read it almost everytime I come across it. There are so many ways to take that setup. I appreciated the way Bain-Vrba took her story of these two musicians. I don’t want to give away spoilers, but I will tell you that she uses strategic POV switches to keep you, and the main characters, guessing from the beginning to the end.
I never fully felt the heartbreak or emotion from either main character, but I still needed them to find each other. To find their happily ever after.
This is the first story I have read from this author, but I will certainly be open to more from her in the future.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
