Mitch never knew what awaited him when he answered his elderly neighbour’s calls. Finding a stranger crying in her backyard was a new one. Little did he know that rescuing Elijah out of the rain was going to change his life.
Elijah is too young, too good looking, and too bruised for Mitch to consider falling in love with. But Elijah is soon in his house, in his bed, and in his heart.
At thirty-eight, Mitch has a lot of experience with life. Elijah is only twenty-three and just starting out. Mitch’s bedroom skills enrapture Elijah. Mitch just hopes it will be enough to make Elijah want to stay.
Out of the Rain is a short love story, as such the timeframe is compressed, and we don’t get quite as much chance to fall in love with Mitch and Elijah as we would with a full story. With that in mind, however, I really enjoyed their story.
The fifteen year age gap is obviously a stumbling block… at least for Mitch. As with most good May-December romances, the May half of the relationship, Elijah, has to convince the December half, Mitch, that he really is attracted to him and that he really does want Mitch for keeps. There is also that little issue of Mitch believing he is more than a bed and a roof to Elijah.
Kaye gives us her irreverent humor just when we need it, but mostly this is a serious look at life after being kicked out for Elijah and finding love later in life for Mitch. As this story won’t take too much of your time or money, I can’t see a reason not to recommend you pick up this sweet little tale.
