Keith Williams is twenty-two and struggling to feel normal again. Once a rising superstar in the competitive world of snowboarding, he’s only now healing from a horrible crash that almost wrecked his body and ripped his confidence from him.
Jesse Royce is a reporter embedded on a snowboarding documentary that Keith has agreed to be a part of. The two of them have always had a sexual attraction that’s hard to ignore. But Keith’s loss of nerve isn’t the only secret he’s keeping, and while it’s tempting to give into his desire for Jesse, it might end up being career suicide.
I am at a loss as to what to say about Secrets from the Edge. One one hand I enjoyed the story of Keith coming back from a pretty horrific injury to begin forays back into the world he loves so much. On the other, I am left with more questions than answers when all is said and done.
I liked Keith, and I like Jesse. However, I never got anything from them more than sex. I never felt they were more, until the very end. Lance was a bit much for me. I still don’t know what bee he got in his bonnet, to be honest. I also still don’t understand the motivation in the magazine outing Keith’s past. So yeah, more questions than answers.
However for the first 75% of the book, I was completely on board (no pun intended). I enjoyed seeing Keith overcome his demons to get back on the backcountry slopes. I enjoyed him overcoming his injury to give snowboarding another shot. I enjoyed the interplay between him and most of the team. I even appreciated the snowboarding terms that I didn’t know prior to reading this story.
There was more positive than negative for me in Secrets from the Edge, and that is all I can ask from a quick comfort-type read…. though I would like to stop reading about broken legs, please.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
