Jordan Callahan is disillusioned since he caught yet another boyfriend cheating. He’s tired of giving his heart to men who only want his body. At his five-year high school reunion, he meets up with old flame Rick Ferguson. Tall, dark, and bisexual, Rick has been his dream guy since sophomore year. But Rick is in the closet and has dated a string of women since high school. If he gives in to the temptation of Rick’s kisses, his lost love could be his future—or just another in a string of men to break his heart.
Rick has tried to live up to other people’s expectations. Everyone in his small home town is waiting for the former captain of the football team to settle down with a nice girl. Well, girls aren’t in the cards for him, and he’s done trying. He wants Jordan, his best friend since first grade. But a relationship with Jordan means coming out—disappointing his family and inviting ridicule from friends. His golden boy reputation will be shattered if he follows his heart to the only love he’s ever wanted.
This gay erotic romance novella is intended for an adult audience. It contains flirtation, secret trysts, fresh hotel sheets, self-delusion, angst, and long, passionate kisses.
This story may work for some readers, but it didn’t for me, though it was hard to exactly point out why.
The story focuses around Jordan Callahan and Rick Ferguson and their friendship/sexual relationship. Right away I disliked Rick—a lot. Jordan has just been dumped by his cheating, closeted boyfriend so in response Rick tries to out him on Facebook. Regardless of what the asshat did, coming out is a private matter and no one should ever be forced. The author may have meant it as something humorous, but I found it anything but and it left a bad taste in my mouth regarding Rick.
The main plot of the story is Rick trying to convince Jordan he’s done sleeping around and wants a relationship with Jordan. Jordan is hesitant to risk his heart because Rick is afraid to tell anyone he’s gay, in fact he’s even hesitant to label himself gay. So Jordan gives him an ultimatum, because that’s a great way to start a relationship.
Most of the story is about Rick trying to convince Jordan to give him a chance and Jordan asking Rick to prove it by coming out. Trouble is I never understood why any man wanted to be with the other. Sure, the sex was hot but I didn’t feel any chemistry between Rick and Jordan.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
