The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge: Book Two
Thad Blackmoor’s heart is as cold as his icy magical abilities. He considers emotions a waste of his time and prefers to study the arcane, using the sacred books of his coven to grow in his craft. He aspires to supersede his father and elder brother Pierce in power, and now that his younger brother, Mason, has tapped into the rare warlock power of darkness, he needs to work harder than ever.
But Thad’s ambitions are halted when he saves Aiden Teine, a fire fairy, from a banshee. Thad’s immediate attraction to Aiden catches him off guard and thaws his cold heart for the first time. As Thad, Aiden, and his brothers investigate the connection between the banshee attack and the vampyre and shadow weaver who almost killed them, Thad tries to dodge Ben, a sexy warlock who won’t let him be after a one-night stand.
Their search for answers leads them to the Otherworld, where something even more insidious is at work—something Thad will need more than logic to stand against.
Blood Tied was a great continuation of this series. There was so much action and intrigue and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The mystery was fantastic. I knew that Ben would be a major player, because he was important enough to make it into the blurb, but I was off about him the entire time. I knew there was more to him that just a warlock determined to bed Thad, but until the big showdown, it never made complete sense. I love when I can’t figure out the mystery until I am supposed to!
Once again the world was vivid and the creatures were interesting. I loved learning more about the characteristics and structure of the various factions. I loved seeing everything slowly be revealed as the action progressed. I also liked that as Thad grew into his powers and slowly understood himself, I as a reader grew along with him and slowly learned more about magic and how it fit into this universe. I really enjoy when an author figures out how to unveil characters, worlds, and plot without resorting to large info-dump description or conversations. I love when things feel like a natural part of the story itself.
I like that once again things were not perfectly wrapped up and the overall big bad ARC will continue in the next story. I am hopeful that since this book answered some of the questions I was left with in the last book, that the next book will do the same. I am still so curious about the bad guy’s purpose and motives. I am still so curious about how the players fit into the whole and how the magic will evolve. And I need to know how everything will end up.
However, once again, I was often left feeling like things were sometimes too easy. Being blood tied once again felt like a reason for instant love but being blood tied was so rarely referenced or explained that it didn’t feel like some mystical connection but felt like easy insta-love. There were also times when people just accepted things without a fight or when actions were perfectly crafted for an outcome. I just felt like there should have been more resistance sometimes.
I also had an issue with Thad’s journey to Otherworld. In the tunnel his brothers and Ben were attacked by the dreaded Vampyren but other than a moment or two of anger and fright, Thad moved on like it was no big deal. Even after the “sex to take a break from the action” where Thad unlocked his emotions, he still did not show any characteristics of a brother concerned. He and Aiden basically meandered to find a solution where any other family member would be out of his mind with fear and concern. I just felt like there was something missing with the way things were handled. It felt a bit out of place.
Even with the few issues I encountered, I enjoyed this book and am loving this series. I cannot wait for the next installment so I can learn even more about these characters and their world. I know the visuals will be great and the action will be outstanding as they have been in both books so far.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
