Danny Newell has loved Locke for six years. Every time they have to work together that love grows just a little bit more desperate. Of course, it would be easier if Locke gave him the time of day. When Danny gets a phone call late at night and goes out on a mission by himself, the last person he expects to go after him is Locke. Being stuck on a mission with a man that despises him is not his favorite thing, to say the least.
I was a big fan of the first couple books in the Lakehouse Security series with the third book having been my least favorite. Locke’s Love now has that distinction.
Usually I can overlook plot holes and an unrealistic story because of a strong connection between two interesting characters. That didn’t happen here. Danny and Locke are characters introduced previous in the series so they weren’t unknown quantities but their story of unrequited love just didn’t excite me.
One problem is that both Danny and Locke have been in love with each other for years but were too afraid to say anything. That meant it happened in the past, before the story started. It’s off page so the reader is just expected to accept their feelings without actually having been there to see it happen.
I will say the sex scenes between Danny and Locke are smoking hot. Even if I didn’t buy the insta-love between the guys, I did feel the passion between them.
If you haven’t read the other books in the series, I wouldn’t start with this one. However, if you enjoy Kelley’s work in general and this series specifically I would recommend this one. I’m sure lots of readers will enjoy this coupling, it just didn’t work for me.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
