Ruben, a young man from London, enjoys his first vacation with his first boyfriend in Norway. But soon, the ski-adventure turns into a nightmare. First, Ruben finds Toby fucking one of the hotel’s employees in their bed. Then, in his haste to flee the horrible situation, he becomes lost in the cold woods. And when he finally finds shelter in a remote cabin, the owner welcomes him with a raised shotgun.

Aleksander is stunned when the tiny guy he thought was a burglar faints right in front of him. To make it up to him, he peels the cute slip of a man out of his soggy, icy clothes and tucks him into bed. The meteorologist and self-declared hermit plans to get rid of his guest as soon as he wakes up. Ruben is less than thrilled though.

The blond, Nordic God might have a habit of swinging shotguns, hatchets, or axes, but he’s kind, caring and hot as hell, too. Ruben is instantly smitten and falls hard for the older man. He tries everything to seduce him and even considers to uproot his whole life in London for Aleks’ love. But Aleks has been burned in the past. Can he accept the love and future Ruben offers him, or will Ruben return to London for good?

My View:

This story could’ve been so much better but was plagued with unrealistic actions, dialogue and characters.

Rubin is devastated when, while on vacation, he discovers his boyfriend cheating on him. He ends up lost in the wilderness and stumbles on the cabin of Norwegian beauty Aleksander. Of course, there is the normal instant attraction between the two men, based solely on physical looks.

There are so many eye-roll worthy moments in this short story it’s actually hard to list them all. Let’s begin the fact that Rubin is a virgin who has been waiting for the right man to go all the way with. The trip was to be when Rubin and Toby finally do it. If Toby knew he was finally going to get what he’d been waiting for why would he cheat with a staff member in the same cabin he was sharing with Rubin? I could buy that he’d been cheating all along, but I don’t buy that he’d risk getting caught after putting so much time in getting Rubin to give up his ass.

I also wonder why Toby would put up with Rubin at all considering Rubin is one of the most immature adults I’ve ever seen. Yeah, he’s a young man but he acts more like he’s twelve when he stomps his feet, pouts, and acts like a total brat when he doesn’t get his way. He also says things like ‘oh, bother’ and squeals.

Now let us deal with the sex. Despite Rubin calling himself a virgin he’s adept at oral sex, which he apparently has engaged in. So oral sex isn’t really sex? We must be dealing with Bill Clinton’s definition of sex. What also annoys me about this is that anal sex is depicted as the be-all and end-all of a relationship between men. That isn’t the case. Lots of gay and bi men choose not to engage in anal penetration and that doesn’t mean they remain virgins for the rest of their lives.

It’s major insta-love here with the men confessing their undying love despite nothing more than a couple sweaty love scenes, which of course doesn’t include anal sex. Why do they wait, despite being in love? Because Aleksander didn’t want to take that step, because Rubin’s first time needs to be special. It couldn’t be in his cabin when Rubin had to go home and take care of things, it could only be in his cabin after Rubin was there to stay. I guess there’s a difference.

The point of view wasn’t very deep in this story and I never connected to the characters or felt their connection. I just wasn’t impressed with this one at all.
